Infrastructure/Service Mesh Software Engineer
Job Overview We are looking for a Distributed Systems Engineer to join the Microservices Platform Service Mesh team, responsible for designing and implementing the next generation Ingress Gateway data plane and control plane, transforming our stack to cloud-native primitives, and enhancing the capabilities of open source software such as Envoy and Istio. Responsibilities Drive the design and implementation of the Ingress Gateway data plane and control plane. Transform the current software stack to adopt cloud-native primitives, building a reliable, scalable, feature-rich service mesh. Contribute upstream to open-source projects, including Envoy. Own and scale large distributed systems across thousands of compute nodes and multiple data centers. Balance live-site management, feature delivery, and technical debt retirement. Participate in on-call rotation to address complex real-time problems. Use telemetry and metrics to drive operational excellence. Qualifications & Experience 10+ years of experience with a strong infrastructure background. Proven ability to design, develop, debug, and operate resilient distributed systems across public cloud environments (AWS, GCP). Proficiency with Golang, Java, and/or C++ in a Linux/UNIX data center environment. Experience operating large-scale cluster management systems (e.g., Kubernetes) for mission-critical services. Strong knowledge of network technologies: TCP/IP, DNS, TLS termination, HTTP proxies, network load balancing. Experience with cloud infrastructure automation tools, frameworks, workflows, and validation platforms (e.g., Spinnaker, Terraform). Working knowledge of CI/CD, configuration management, and Infrastructure as Code principles. Experience with Agile development methodology (Scrum) and Test-Driven Development with a focus on code quality. Experience with Istio/Envoy is a huge plus. Strong ability to mentor senior engineers, lead design reviews, and drive cross-team alignment. Key Attributes Passion for service ownership, building reliable, self-healing services. Compensation The typical base salary range for this position is $197,300 - $313,700 annually. In select cities within the San Francisco and New York City metropolitan area, the base salary range is $237,700 - $344,700 annually.
