SUMMARY
Purpose
This position works under the Food Service Director and supports all activities of the Food Service Department and Dining Room. The position is responsible for the quality of meals served, quality of service delivery during meal service and for compliance with special diets offered by the community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Required
Support the Food Service Director with planning, directing, controlling, communicating and coaching in the dining service department.
This position requires strong written and verbal communication skills, strong personnel skills and positive community relations skills to be successful. * Must be self-motivated and can work independently and make decisions.

Typical
Menu Development:
Follows the community Menu Program or approved substitution menu that meets nutritional requirements, as directed by the Food Service Director. If assisting with food purchasing, then follows buying practices approved by the community. Conforms to policy and procedures for all special diets offered. Responds to resident likes and dislikes maintaining high resident satisfaction.
Preparation and delivery of food:
Ensure that all foods are prepared to the satisfaction of residents and in accordance with safe food handling practices. Maintains food temperatures during storage, production and serving according to required food safety standards. Uses equipment that meets all health department standards. All food items are stored appropriately and dated properly. Ensures that staff provide a service that maintains good resident experience during mealtimes. Circulates in the dining room to ascertain resident preferences and satisfaction with meals.
Supervision of the Food Service Staff:
Provides input and support to the Food Service Director on new hires and training staff in the dietary department. Provides input to the Food Service Director on evaluations as needed with all staff to ensure that all work done in the dietary department is done appropriately. Brings all performance issues to the Food Service Director.
Compliance with Sanitation and Dietary Guidelines:
Maintains a clean kitchen. This includes all equipment, walls, dry storage, cold storage, cooking and preparation surfaces and dish storage areas.
Safety Compliance:
This position is responsible for ensuring that they and any employees reporting to them work in a safe manner and that potentially hazardous conditions are to be managed. Compliance with Safety Committee Standards is required.
Team Effectiveness:
This position is responsible for fostering teamwork with co-workers, showing initiative in overcoming obstacles, taking actions which assist others beyond job responsibilities, and having a positive impact on co-workers, residents and visitors.

EDUCATION & LICENSING

EXPERIENCE

WORKING CONDITIONS
UsualUse equipment in the kitchen including stoves, slicers, knives and other utensils. Verbally able to articulate in person and over the phone.SpecialThis position may encounter stressful conditions dealing with residents, employees and business activities. Also, must be able to work well under pressure, to resolve conflicts, to prioritize tasks, and follow through with ideas. Excellent communication skills. Must be able to work evenings and weekends and maintain a flexible work schedule. Attending business-related training functions. Occasional travel to the corporate office.
