Senior Electrical Engineer / Control Systems EngineerLocation: Tucson, AZ (Onsite)Salary: $110,000 – $155,000 per year plus significant equityJob Type: Full-TimeSecurity Clearance: Must be a U.S. Citizen able to obtain/maintain a DoD Security ClearanceRole OverviewThe Senior Electrical Engineer / Control Systems Engineer leads the design, development, and integration of custom electronics, PCB layouts, and real-time control systems for next-generation ultrashort pulse laser and directed energy defense technologies. This role collaborates across mechanical, optical, software, and systems engineering teams to build precision beam directors and optical control architectures.Key ResponsibilitiesCustom Electronics & PCB Design: Lead custom electronic design and PCB layouts (Altium/PADS/OrCAD) for laser stabilization, pulse timing, motion control, and sensor feedback; coordinate with vendors for prototyping and production.Control Systems & Algorithm Integration: Partner with software engineers to implement embedded real-time control algorithms and manage hardware interfaces (SPI, UART, CAN, USB, Ethernet, I2C).Testing & Lab Support: Test, debug, and optimize integrated electronic platforms and build prototype electronics to support lab experiments.Documentation: Create system hardware specifications, block diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation.QualificationsRequiredCitizenship & Clearance: US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD clearance.Education & Experience: Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electrical Engineering (or related field) with 5+ years of hands-on experience designing, testing, and optimizing complex control electronics.Design & Simulation Tools: Proficiency with tools such as Altium, PADS, OrCAD, LTspice, COMSOL, or SIMULINK.Protocols: Strong knowledge of SPI, UART, CAN, USB, Ethernet, I2C, and related hardware interfaces.PreferredExperience designing electronic controls for lasers or optical systems.FPGA design and testing experience.Background in DoD or aerospace systems development environments.
