You can also fill out your Work History in this application.This is a Safety-Sensitive position.About the PositionThe Solid Waste Services Division of Edmond Public Works provides waste collection and disposal services to residential households and commercial establishments within Edmond. Services include collection of weekly waste, curbside recycling, monthly bulk items, and city-coded bag disposal.The Solid Waste Truck Driver will perform skilled work by operating heavy-duty packer refuse collection trucks. They are responsible for operating and maintaining a heavy-duty refuse collection truck equipped with a hydraulic powered packer and dump; transporting waste loads to the landfill and/or transfer station for disposal; and maintaining, repairing, and delivering refuse containers requiring some assembly and sub-assembly processes.ResponsibilitiesOperate heavy-duty packer refuse collection trucksDump residential carts or commercial style containers into the truckTransport waste to the transfer station, which may include servicing roll off containersLeave notifications for customersReport violations of regulations to the supervisorRead & understand route sheets to determine street address & type of services neededLeave notice messages and/or instructions to homeowners about special servicesMaintain equipment by performing minor vehicle maintenance, such as:checking tire inflationcleaning the cabwashing the truck's exteriorReport any maintenance needs to the supervisor or to the garageQualificationsHigh school diploma or GED equivalent (preferred)2 years related experience in solid waste management (preferred)Valid Class "B" Oklahoma Commercial Driver's License with required endorsements (preferred)For those without a CDL license, the City of Edmond can provide financial assistance in obtaining a CDL LicenseDriving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrierNecessary SkillsStrong verbal and written communication skillsBasic mathematical skillsAbility to operate required machineryAbility to learn proper operation of front load, roll off, & fork truck containersAbility to meet the required physical standards for this positionAbility to pass extensive background process and pre-employment drug, physical, and audio screeningsBenefitsGenerous benefits package including health, vision, and dental insuranceAccess to a dedicated primary care medical clinic at no cost to employees and covered dependentsGenerous time off, paid holidays, longevity rewards, and retirement benefitsPaid parental leaveA tangible impact to the Solid Waste Department and residents in the City of EdmondA dynamic and inclusive environment where your contributions are valuedAPPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED UNTIL POSITION IS FILLED.The City of Edmond is an equal opportunity employer.
