Assistant Teaching Artist (Jan - May 2026)

Purpose: This position will support the Opera Philadelphia Teaching Artists during the latter half of the Residency program from January through May. In this position, you will support Opera Philadelphia’s Teaching Artists in developing and facilitating lesson plans, preparing lesson material, and maintaining caring student centric classroom environment. The successful candidates must enjoy working with children (grades 3rd through 5th) and be devoted to building a nurturing and safe learning environment. This is a paid position with a stipend of $600 for the spring semester (January – May 2026). Responsibilities include: Work with the Teaching Artists in class zoom sessions each week Assist Teaching Artists with lesson preparation by organizing materials for the classrooms Assist Teaching Artists in the classroom (rotate between all classes) Collaborate with Teaching Artists to recognize issues students are facing and recommend solutions Document the Apprentice Teaching Artists experience by keeping a weekly journal Attend weekly meetings with Residency Program Manager and all Teaching Artists Comply with state, school, and class rules and regulations. Attend all professional developments, if any. Ensure the classroom environment is safe and supportive Requirements: Flexibility to work/meet during school time hours 9am-3pm Proficiency with Zoom and/or Microsoft Teams for virtual team meetings An understanding/willingness to learn about cultural proficient teaching ideology Ability to work in a productive manner as part of a team Excellent communication skills Outstanding interpersonal abilities Experience working with children is preferred but not required
