Incumbent serves as mechanic for the Department of Agriculture & Forestry's Automotive Shop, Office of Management & Finance. Duties entail the independent performance of advanced, highly skilled automotive mechanic work relative to the repair and maintenance of light and heavy-duty diesel and gasoline-powered automotive equipment, as well as all passenger vehicles. General supervision is received from a Mechanic Supervisor A.

Job Duties
Repair and overhaul of heavy-duty diesel tractor/trailer rigs, as well as heavy-duty diesel and gasoline trucks (light and heavy) and passenger cars.
Diagnosis of operational and malfunctions of both diesel and internal combustion engines and subsequent repair or replacement of parts as necessary.
Incumbent uses a laptop to diagnose heavy equipment (Mack, freight liner) and diagnostic equipment to diagnose vehicles.
Overhaul, repair, and replace components such as transmissions, all running gear, electrical cooling systems, and related work as required.
Maintains appropriate records in the FASTER fleet program relative to equipment, including breakdown of parts, labor, downtime, and related information.
Other duties as assigned.
Functional Requirements
Moderate light lifting, 30 pounds, with occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds
Walking and standing (8 hours)
Occasional bending or kneeling
Reaching above the shoulders and carrying specialized equipment needed to perform duties
Requires considerable walking over irregular ground and standing for long periods of time
Occasional demands may be required for moderately strenuous activities in emergencies over long periods of time
Climbing on and off transport and tractor
Environmental Factors
Occasional excessive heat and humidity
Working indoors and outdoors
Slippery and uneven walking surfaces
Occasionally working in moderately cold temperatures for short periods of time
Exposed to smoke and dust
Will be required to wear appropriate safety protection/clothing

Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
