Civil Engineer (Transportation)

If so, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is seeking a motivated Civil Engineer (Transportation) to join our dynamic operations team within District 6. This is a critical role where you will be responsible for reviewing complex traffic designs and construction plans to ensure compliance with all necessary standards and procedures. Description of Work As a Civil Engineer, you will review submissions of traffic design and construction considerations for the Highway Occupancy Permit (HOP) applications for low, medium, and high volume driveways in Bucks, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties. Upon reviewing plans and calculations, you will provide a detailed memo of comments and recommendations to proceed with the project. You will also investigate traffic and drainage problems, apply engineering analysis, recommend solutions, and prepare appropriate engineering reports. Excellent communication skills are vital, as you will respond to customer service inquiries through telephone conversations, e‑mail, office meetings, and field meetings with HOP applicants and designers, ensuring customers are adequately informed of the correct procedures and standards for traffic and hydraulic designs. Work Schedule & Additional Information Full‑time employment Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday‑Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch Telework: You may work from home part‑time, up to 5 days per pay period. Telework requires a securely configured high‑speed internet connection and an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If unable to telework, you may report to the headquarters office in King of Prussia. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Salary: Selected candidates will begin employment at a starting annual salary of $69,203.00 (before taxes). Required Experience and Training Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Successful completion of the Civil Engineer Trainee training program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty and an Engineer‑in‑Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or Four years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, an engineer‑in‑training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists, and an associate’s degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline; or One year of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline. Special Requirements This position requires possession of a valid driver’s license. Other Requirements PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
