Position OverviewOur clinic is seeking a dedicated and professional Medical Assistant to support the delivery of high‑quality patient care within our ophthalmic practice. We welcome applicants without prior ophthalmic experience and provide comprehensive training. A high school diploma or equivalent is required; medical or clinical experience is preferred.Core CompetenciesCommunication excellence — Clear, effective communication and strong interpersonal interaction Compassionate patient care — Sensitivity to patient concerns and a calm, supportive demeanor Organizational precision — Strong organizational habits and meticulous attention to detail Team collaboration — Ability to work effectively within a clinical team Technical proficiency — Demonstrated comfort with computer systems and medical records Primary DutiesPatient Interaction & Clinical SupportPatient orientation — Introduces new patients to office workflow and outlines what to expect Test explanation — Describes the purpose and experience of each diagnostic test History collection — Gathers comprehensive patient histories, including chief complaint, ocular and medical history, medications, allergies, and family history Clinical documentation — Performs consistent, accurate documentation and testing Imaging support — Assists the ophthalmic photographer with fundus, external, and anterior segment imaging Triage & Patient FlowPatient prioritization — Determines appropriate testing order to maintain efficient flow Patient escorting — Escorts patients from the waiting area and initiates data collection Care transitions — Informs patients about next steps and ensures comfort during transitions Flow adjustments — Adjusts testing order as needed to support physician efficiency Phone triage — Handles calls related to ocular emergencies, medication refills, and general care questions Scheduling coordination — Collaborates with reception staff to maintain smooth scheduling Equipment CareTroubleshooting — Identifies and resolves minor equipment issues Maintenance — Replaces bulbs, checks instrument connections, and ensures proper function Sterilization — Conducts autoclaving and maintains instrument sterility Issue reporting — Reports ongoing equipment concerns to the Lead Ophthalmic Technician Administrative ResponsibilitiesGuided learning — Seeks direction from senior staff and avoids working beyond skill level Appointment confirmation — Calls patients to confirm appointments two business days prior Room readiness — Maintains clean, orderly exam and procedure rooms Supply management — Ensures adequate stock levels in clinical rooms Additional duties — Completes other tasks as assigned Physical Requirements & Work SettingThis role operates within a professional clinical environment. Physical activities may include speaking, hearing, manual dexterity, standing, walking, sitting, and occasional lifting up to 50 lbs. Visual demands include near and distance vision with the ability to adjust focus.
