Patients in this unit may present with a variety of diagnoses, including stroke, COPD, and renal failure. The nurse will be responsible for managing complex patient care, including ventilator management, administration of blood products, and care of patients with central lines. Skills in interpreting arterial blood gases and managing dysrhythmias are essential. This position requires proficiency in monitoring and titration of intravenous medications. The registered nurse will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team including physical therapy, respiratory services, and pharmacy. Experience with special procedures related to MICU care is beneficial. The nurse will also participate in infection prevention and ensure proper isolation precautions are maintained. Suctioning and starting IVs are among the various technical skills required.
