Inpatient Medical Coder (ICD-10 / DRG) – Acute Care****CANDIDATES MUST LIVE in (AL, CA, CT, FL, GA, ID, IL, IN, LA, MI, MO, NJ, NY, NC, OH, PA, RI, TX, VT, VA, WA, WV)****Position OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Inpatient Medical Coder to support accurate, compliant coding within an acute care hospital setting. This role is ideal for a coder with strong experience across complex cases who can ensure coding integrity, proper DRG assignment, and alignment with regulatory standards.What You'll DoAssign accurate ICD-10-CM/PCS codes in accordance with national coding standards and CMS guidelinesDetermine and sequence diagnoses and procedures using UHDDS criteria to ensure appropriate MS-DRG/APR-DRG assignmentApply Present on Admission (POA) indicators and identify Hospital-Acquired Conditions (HACs)Review medical records for completeness, accuracy, and proper discharge statusSubmit compliant provider queries for unclear or conflicting documentationResolve pre-bill edits and ensure accounts are coded accurately prior to billing (DNFB management)Extract and input clinical data into coding and abstracting systemsCollaborate with HIM and CDI teams to improve documentation quality and coding accuracyMaintain productivity and accuracy benchmarks while meeting organizational standardsRequired Qualifications5+ years of inpatient coding experience using ICD-10-CM/PCSStrong knowledge of MS-DRG and APR-DRG methodologiesExperience in acute care settings , including complex cases (trauma, teaching hospitals, transplant)Certification required: RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or equivalentProven ability to meet coding accuracy and productivity benchmarksPreferred QualificationsAssociate degree or higher in Health Information Management or related fieldExperience in large hospital environments (500+ beds)Familiarity with Epic, 3M 360, or similar coding platformsBroad specialty experience including:Medical/SurgicalCardiology / Cardiothoracic / VascularOrthopedicsNeurologyGastroenterologyBehavioral HealthTransplant (kidney, liver, pancreas)Strong attention to detail and ability to pass a coding assessmentCOMING FROM A UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL AFFILIATION IS SUPER BENEFICIAL!!!!ScheduleFlexible schedule within 7:00 AM – 7:00 PMWhy This RoleOpportunity to work with complex, high-acuity cases in a dynamic acute care settingGain exposure across multiple specialties and service linesJoin a team focused on accuracy, compliance, and continuous improvementStable opportunity with immediate need and strong team support
