Elementary STEM Teacher
Elementary Stem Teacher West Elementary School currently has an opening for an Elementary STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Teacher. The STEM teacher will work with students to introduce STEM topics and prepare our students to collaborate, communicate, think critically, and be creative. As a facilitator and leader, the STEM teacher develops, promotes, and implements a program that will help prepare students to be effective thinkers in STEM fields.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Design and implement hands-on, lab-oriented science, technology, engineering and math lessons, using the course of study adopted by the Board of Education, to K through 5th grade students
Use technology to promote learning, creativity and collaboration
Engage and develop students with technology
Use individual or small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students and to accommodate circumstances where a variety of projects are being worked on simultaneously
Collaborate with grade level teachers and Technology Integration Specialists to integrate grade-level standards, Common Core State Standards (CCSS), Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Standards
Provide standards-based, structured, project based learning that interconnects STEM subjects
Develop rigorous lesson plans that are driven by student assessment
Introduce students to various programming models
Incorporate mandatory health related topics into the science curriculum
Maintain a climate and culture that allows for authentic learning experiences and intellectual growth
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Valid Illinois Professional Educator License Elementary Education K-9, Self-Contained Math and/or Science Endorsement Preferred
Instructional Technology Certificate Preferred
Experience with Instructional Technology Tools Preferred (Audio/Visual, Word Processing, Presentation, Spreadsheets, and Google Apps for Education, Windows OS, and Apple iPad)
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Demonstrate high levels of flexibility, have excellent interpersonal communication skills, articulation, creativity, concentration, confidentiality, organization, maintain a positive attitude and cooperativeness.
Physical requirements include sitting, bending, standing, walking, moderate lifting of materials and equipment.
