This role provides an exciting opportunity for those with a background in clinical laboratory science to apply their expertise in blood bank procedures and contribute to patient diagnostics. You'll work alongside a collaborative team committed to excellence in laboratory testing and safety compliance, in a well-established clinical environment dedicated to continuous improvement and patient safety.Responsibilities:Follow laboratory protocols for specimen collection, handling, and processing, ensuring specimen integrity.Perform specimen analysis using approved testing methods, adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).Review and verify test results before releasing reports, ensuring accuracy and completeness.Maintain detailed records of all testing activities, including quality control, instrument calibration, and maintenance logs.Conduct quality assurance activities, monitor compliance with CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety standards, and document all quality control measures.Analyze proficiency testing samples alongside patient specimens, ensuring testing accuracy and compliance.Identify and troubleshoot any issues that could impact test performance, promptly notifying supervisors and documenting corrective actions.Communicate critical or STAT results promptly to clinicians and relevant stakeholders following unit procedures.Ensure reagents and test kits are properly labeled with received, opened, and expiration dates.Participate in ongoing training sessions, departmental meetings, and safety programs.Follow safety procedures meticulously, knowing the location of safety manuals and equipment.Assist with inspections or audits by regulatory agencies as needed.Maintain a clean and organized laboratory workspace, including general appearance and safety compliance.Perform additional duties related to laboratory operations, as directed by supervisory staff. Required Skills:Solid understanding of clinical laboratory testing, with proficiency in blood bank procedures essential.Knowledge of quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) processes.Strong attention to detail with excellent documentation skills.Computer literacy with experience in multiple laboratory information systems (LIS).Ability to troubleshoot testing issues and maintain equipment properly.Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with team members and clients.Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities and work efficiently in high-pressure situations.Commitment to patient confidentiality and safety protocol adherence. Nice to Have Skills:Prior experience in blood bank or transfusion services.Exposure to high-complexity testing or accreditation standards.Additional certifications such as ASCP or AMT in Medical Technology, MT, or MLT. Preferred Education and Experience:Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biology, or Chemistry preferred; Associates degree or equivalent experience also considered.At least one year of clinical laboratory experience in high-complexity testing, especially blood banking.Foreign-educated candidates must provide credential evaluations from IERF; US-educated candidates should submit original transcripts.Valid national certification (e.g., ASCP, AMT) and applicable state licensure are highly preferred or required. Other Requirements:Flexibility to manage multiple procedures and prioritize workflow efficiently.Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with other laboratory departments and client interactions.Ability to perform under regulatory standards, including government inspections.Physical ability to work at laboratory bench, lift supplies, and maintain a sterile environment.Blood bank experience is specifically required, and candidates with this specialization are encouraged to apply.
