Investment Analyst
Summary of Duties: The Investment Analyst will perform a full range of research, analytical, trading and operational assignments required to manage Red Cedar Investment Management’s (RCIM) client portfolios. Under the general direction of senior staff, s(he) will assist in the management of assets in accordance with the Investment Policy Statement(s). The Analyst will work directly in publicly traded markets helping to provide investment analysis on securities. S(he) will also execute trades under the supervision of a senior portfolio manager, with the expectation of eventually analyzing, recommending, and trading securities with minimal supervision. The Analyst will provide assistance with monthly and quarterly investment reporting. S(he) will be responsible for coordinating with multiple departments regarding information requests for varying purposes. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESInvestment Analysts can expect to focus in the following areas: Research and Analysis:Understand and become proficient in RCIM operational and analytical platforms (Bloomberg Terminal, AIM, PORT, Clearwater, etc.)Provide oversight, monitoring, and reporting on investment holdingsDevelop analytical reports and tools to assist in investment decisions Recommend trades to senior portfolio managersProvide monthly and quarterly portfolio reporting for clients and mutual fundsUpdate and maintain RCIM’s investment models Maintain analyst coverage of sectors as assigned by senior management Trading:Execute trades as directed by senior portfolio managersDevelop tools to find securities offeringsKeep team apprised of new deal flow and other relevant market commentaryPortfolio Management:Monitor portfolio activity and positions and report findings to senior staffAssist in running portfolio risk management software to provide insight to senior staffProvide performance attributionOther Duties:Complete special projects as assigned by senior staff Make regular presentations to investment team regarding individual securities and sectorsDevelop improved functionality as technology permitsEvaluation and recommendation of research services and selection of data sourcesModerate travel as necessary to attend industry conferences and client relations EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEBachelor’s degree, preferably in Business, Finance, Economics, or other quantitative fieldZero to three years’ work experience in investment management, consulting, and/or similar roles is preferredProgramming skills not required but are a plusPursuing the CFA designation or equivalent is strongly encouraged QUALIFICATIONSSolid organization and communication skills (both oral and written)Strong Excel modeling capabilitiesSound, independent judgmentStrong attention to detailAbility to work in a team setting and take direction from othersKnowledge of investment concepts and terminologyTechnical knowledge and an ability to learn new technologiesProficiency using a computer equipped with Microsoft Office and other business software to prepare correspondences, documents, spreadsheets, charts, and reports Ability to use/learn investment analytics, management, and accounting tools: i. Bloomberg Terminal ii. Bloomberg PORT iii. Bloomberg AIM v. Clearwater Analytics
