Technical Writer - Utility OperationsChino, CA, Hybrid Schedule: Onsite Tuesdays & WednesdaysUp to $44.63/hour, 18-Month ContractWe are currently seeking a Technical Writer - Utility Operations to join a growing operational excellence team in Chino, California on an 18-month contract basis.This hybrid role requires onsite attendance on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and will focus on developing and maintaining operational and safety-related documentation supporting utility and field operations teams.The successful candidate will work closely with SMEs, advisors, project leads, and operational stakeholders to create practical, field-ready documentation while supporting governance, compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives.Core ResponsibilitiesWork Method Documentation DevelopmentDesign, draft, and maintain:Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)Job AidsPerformance Support NotebooksManual updates including Rubber Glove, Grounding, Rigging, and Transmission ManualsEnsure documentation is:Practical, field-ready, and usable by craft personnelAligned with current standards, policies, and safety requirementsStructured in accordance with approved WMI governance and SOP proceduresSME Engagement & Working SessionsSchedule and facilitate working sessions with SMEs, reviewers, and advisorsGather technical input, operational insights, and field practicesCapture consensus decisions and translate them into clear, usable documentationResearch, Analysis & Technical AccuracyResearch and consolidate policies, presentations, vendor materials, standards, and SME feedbackValidate technical accuracy and completeness of deliverables prior to approvalCollaboration & Project SupportPartner with WMI Advisors, Project Leads, SMEs, and stakeholders across organizational unitsProvide regular status updates and support project timelinesFollow established governance, review, and approval workflowsField Engagement & Media SupportPerform site visits and job walks as requiredConduct basic image editing to support technical documentationCollaborate with media vendors to assist with scripts and development guidanceMaintenance & Continuous ImprovementMaintain and update documentation in response to:Standards changesCorrective actionsSafety workstreamsNew tools, equipment, or operational processesRequired QualificationsProven experience producing technical or procedural documentationStrong ability to translate complex technical information into clear, field-usable languageExperience facilitating SME workshops and working sessionsStrong organizational skills with excellent writing and version-control disciplineComfortable collaborating across multiple organizational teams and stakeholdersProficiency with:Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPointSharePoint, OneDrive, Outlook, TeamsAdobe AcrobatBasic photo editing softwareMicrosoft Copilot or similar collaboration toolsPreferred QualificationsExperience within utilities, energy, construction, manufacturing, or industrial environments strongly preferredPrior exposure to field operations, safety procedures, or industrial compliance documentation highly desirableExperience LevelThis role is not considered entry-level in practice due to the high safety and compliance impact of the work.Typical candidates will possess:5-8+ years of technical writing experience, or3-5+ years of technical writing experience combined with strong utility, industrial, or field operations exposure
