Communications ManagerOrganization: Groundwork San Diego-Chollas CreekLocation: 5106 Federal Blvd. STE 203 San Diego, CA. 92105Position Type: 32 hours / weekMinimum in-person 20 hours / week, remaining 12 hours can be hybridSaturdays in-person required when events are scheduledCompensation: $26–30/hour, depending on experienceBenefits: Paid Time Off & Sick Leave accrual, Mileage Reimbursement, CalSavers Account, Health Insurance About the RoleGroundwork San Diego-Chollas Creek is seeking a highly organized, creative, and community-oriented Communications Manager to lead and coordinate external communications across our environmental justice, youth leadership, climate resilience, and community engagement programs. This role will help strengthen relationships with community members, partners, schools, funders, and volunteers through clear, engaging, and consistent communication.The Communications Manager will create outreach materials such as newsletters, social media content, event communications to elevate the visibility and impact of Groundwork’s projects and programs throughout the Chollas Creek Watershed. The Communications Manager will participate in outreach event activities, and develop and maintain a contact management system with community members and those interested in Groundwork’s mission, along with other duties as assigned.Key ResponsibilitiesCommunications & OutreachDevelop and manage organizational communications across email, social media, and digital platformsCreate and send event invitations, reminders, follow-up emails, and community announcementsProduce monthly or bi-monthly newsletters highlighting programs, events, youth leadership, and organizational impactManage and grow Groundwork’s social media presence, including Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, and other platformsProduce and schedule social media content, including graphics, captions, stories, videos, and event promotionsSupport storytelling efforts by collecting photos, videos, quotes, testimonials, and project updates from staff and community members and making original photographic and video contentParticipate in outreach events sharing Groundwork’s program activities and collecting contact information.Design & Communications MaterialsDesign flyers, event graphics, outreach materials, presentations, and other communications assetsEnsure communications materials align with Groundwork branding and messagingDesign and deliver outreach campaigns for community events, volunteer recruitment, youth programs, and other advocacy initiatives.Contact Management & Data TrackingMaintain and effectively organize for staff use community contact databases, email lists, and outreach recordsTrack communications with community members, partners, volunteers, and stakeholdersSupport data entry and management using spreadsheets, CRM systems, Airtable, Mailchimp, and/or similar platformsHelp improve organizational systems for tracking engagement and outreach effortsCollaboration & Administrative SupportWork closely with program staff to communicate project milestones and upcoming opportunitiesSupport coordination and promotion of community meetings, workshops, volunteer events, and youth programsAssist with documenting organizational impact through photos, metrics, and communications reportingSupport grant reporting by providing communications and outreach metrics regarding grant implementationPotential to manage Groundwork internsQualificationsStrong written and verbal communication skillsExperience creating social media and outreach content and managing social media platforms and email newsletter programsGraphic design experience using Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar toolsStrong organizational skills and attention to detailExperience with databases, spreadsheets, CRMs, or contact management systemsAbility to manage multiple projects and deadlines independentlyPassion for environmental justice, community engagement, education, and climate resilience workEnjoys interacting with the publicPreferred QualificationsExperience working with nonprofits, schools, or community-based organizationsFamiliarity with Mailchimp, Airtable, Salesforce, Google Workspace, or similar toolsPhotography, videography, or storytelling experienceExperience supporting community engagement or grassroots outreach effortsSpanish-English Bilingual and proficient in writing in the Spanish languageTo ApplyEmail us at jobs@groundworksandiego.orgPlease submit:ResumeBrief cover letter or statement of interestExamples of communications, social media, newsletters, or design work (if available)Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
