Trustee of Granton Youth
Background
Granton Youth (affectionately known as GY) provides opportunities for young people aged 11-27 living within North Edinburgh. Our work is rooted in North Edinburgh and shaped by local young people and families. We support young people through youth clubs, school-based support, counselling, volunteering, music, and outdoor activities, as well as family support services. We aim to provide practical, emotional and social support through facilitation, empowerment, and challenge – across the various projects and services we offer - to enable local people to reach their true potential.
Role
The current Board wishes to appoint additional trustees. No knowledge of youth work is required as current directors and staff will provide support.
This is a governance role (rather than an operational one), helping oversee the charity responsibly, contributing to strategy, supporting good decision-making, and ensuring the organisation remains sustainable and effective in delivering for local young people and families.
Remuneration
This role is voluntary with no financial remuneration.
Time commitment
Board meetings are called as and when decisions are required. On average board meetings are held quarterly.
Our Chair currently keeps the board up to date with the operation through email or where appropriate videocall, if there is any urgency.
Location
GY work is based in North Edinburgh. The meetings are a mix of in-person and virtual.
Person Specification
We are especially keen to bring on those with skills and knowledge of leadership, at a strategic level, or even those with a passion to be part of something special and see what a difference our charity can make for people.
