Leveraging over 30 years of research, development, and manufacturing, we are now pioneering human permanence beyond Earth using our immense, super strong, and radically economical expandable space habitats to bring humanity to Earth orbit, the Moon, Mars, and beyond. *THERMAL, STRUCTURAL, AND DYNAMICS ENGINEER* We are seeking a Thermal, Structural, and Dynamics Engineer to support the design, analysis, testing, and qualification of aerospace structures and systems, including expandable modules and pressurized habitats. This engineer will conduct thermal, structural, and vibration analyses across the product lifecycle, from early concept development through detailed design, testing, and flight qualification. The role requires sound engineering judgment, strong finite-element analysis skills, and the ability to translate analysis results into clear design recommendations. *RESPONSIBILITIES:* · Develop and maintain finite-element models of aerospace structures, mechanisms, pressure systems, and integrated hardware. · Perform linear and nonlinear static structural analysis. · Evaluate strength, stiffness, stability, buckling, margins of safety, and structural life. · Perform modal, frequency-response, random-vibration, sine-vibration, shock, and transient dynamic analyses. · Develop thermal models for steady-state and transient operating conditions. · Evaluate conductive, convective, and radiative heat transfer. · Perform coupled thermal-structural analyses, including thermal distortion and thermally induced stress. · Define and evaluate launch, handling, deployment, pressure, operational, and environmental load cases. · Support analysis of flexible structures, softgoods, expandable systems, and their interfaces with rigid hardware. · Develop analysis plans, assumptions, boundary conditions, material properties, and load definitions. · Correlate analytical models with component, subsystem, and system-level test data. · Support structural, vibration, thermal-vacuum, pressure, and qualification testing. · Review drawings, CAD models, material selections, and interface requirements. · Identify design risks and recommend practical design changes. · Prepare analysis reports, presentations, margins summaries, and certification documentation. · Present analysis results to internal teams, customers, suppliers, and technical review boards. · Work closely with mechanical design, systems, manufacturing, test, and program teams. *BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:* · Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related technical field. · 4+ years of relevant professional experience performing structural, thermal, or dynamic analysis of complex engineered hardware. · Experience with finite-element modeling and analysis software such as ANSYS, Abaqus, NASTRAN, FEMAP, or equivalent tools. · Experience with the following areas: · Structural stress analysis · Thermal analysis · Modal and vibration analysis · Shock or transient dynamics · Pressure-vessel or pressurized-structure analysis · Understanding of aerospace materials, joints, fasteners, bonded interfaces, and structural load paths. · Ability to independently develop analysis approaches, evaluate results, and identify modeling limitations. · Ability to clearly document and communicate technical conclusions. *PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:* · Experience with spacecraft, launch vehicles, pressure systems, habitats, deployable systems, or expandable structures. · Experience with coupled thermal-structural analysis. · Experience analyzing composite materials, fabrics, membranes, softgoods, or nonlinear contact behavior. · Experience with random vibration, acoustic loading, shock-response spectra, or coupled-loads analysis. · Experience planning or supporting vibration, thermal-vacuum, pressure, structural-load, or qualification testing. · Familiarity with NASA, Department of Defense, or commercial aerospace structural and environmental requirements. · Experience correlating analytical models with test data. · Experience with fatigue, fracture, creep, damage tolerance, or structural-life assessments. · Familiarity with scripting or automation using Python, MATLAB, or similar tools. · Experience working directly with customers and presenting at formal design reviews. *DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS:* · Strong engineering judgment and attention to detail. · Comfortable working across multiple technical disciplines. · Able to balance analytical rigor with program schedule and cost constraints. · Capable of working independently while also collaborating closely with design and test teams. · Willing to challenge assumptions and identify potential failure modes early. · Comfortable operating in a fast-paced aerospace development environment.
