ROLEWe are seeking a Criminal Litigation Assistant to join the U.S. Attorney's Office, Northern District of Georgia (USAO NDGA), in Atlanta, Georgia. Criminal Litigation SupportSupport Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) with day-to-day criminal litigation and legal administrative workPrepare, process, format, and file pleadings, motions, briefs, affidavits, and other legal documentsDraft recurring criminal litigation documents using proper legal format and established proceduresPrepare complaints, warrants, indictments, affidavits, summonses, and grand jury subpoenasReview incoming legal materials and determine document preparation, assembly, and filing needsProofread and cite-check briefs, memoranda, pleadings, motions, and other court filingsAssemble tables of authorities, tables of contents, exhibits, and court filing materialsCompose routine legal correspondence, transmittal letters, notices, and case-related communicationsII. Legal ResearchConduct factual and legal research in legal and non-legal databases at attorney directionSearch legal databases, indices, and computerized reference systems for precedent and case lawResearch statutes, regulations, legislation, court cases, and other legal authorities as directedConduct factual research on individuals, companies, witnesses, and case-related entitiesCompile cited cases, opinions, statutes, references, and supporting materials for briefsProvide organized research findings and case-related information to attorneys for criminal mattersIII. Discovery & Evidence SupportOrganize evidence and discovery materials for production, investigations, hearings, and trial usePrepare evidence summaries and summaries of witness interviews and meetingsMaintain paper and electronic evidence, discovery, correspondence, exhibits, and case filesManage PDFs, images, audio, video, bank records, forensic reports, and other evidence filesCode, index, search, organize, and retrieve discovery using litigation support toolsAssist with document searches, first-level review, discovery organization, and production coordinationPrepare witness binders, exhibit materials, and case documents for investigations, hearings, and trialsIV. Trial & Courtroom SupportCompile trial notebooks, jury instructions, witness lists, exhibit lists, and courtroom materialsPrepare trial exhibits, charts, graphs, timelines, visuals, and courtroom presentation materialsProvide automated litigation support for trial preparation, hearings, and courtroom presentationsUse litigation support software, scanners, plotters, and related tools to prepare case materialsEnlarge charts and photos, duplicate audio and video materials, and mark exhibits for trial useCoordinate with Victim-Witness staff on victims' rights, services issues, and related notificationsV. Case Management & SchedulingOpen, update, track, and close criminal cases in the automated case tracking systemMaintain paper and electronic case files, correspondence, briefs, evidence, and discovery materialsTrack case status, developments, deadlines, filings, hearings, trials, conferences, and interviewsPrepare case status summaries covering factual issues, legal issues, developments, and next stepsMaintain calendars, suspense systems, reminders, and deadline tracking for assigned active casesProvide attorneys with reminders for deadlines, appointments, commitments, and court appearancesSearch case files, legal references, and records for information needed by AUSAs and case teamsPrepare files and records for screening, organization, disposition, transfer, or records storageVI.
