Capital Development Associate

We are seeking a Capital Development Associate to join our team. This person can work hybrid from our offices in Oakland, CA, Chicago, IL or Durham, NC! The Capital Development Associate is responsible for supporting debt and equity fundraising to further Self-Help's mission-driven programs and impact, including identifying and securing new capital, and fostering relationships with key funding partners and peers. This position will lead and support funder reporting and compliance, ensuring Self-Help meets external deliverables and internal funding goals. Finally, this position will support coordination with Self-Help leadership in various areas, e.g. affordable housing, equitable education, small business and nonprofit lending. What you'll do: FUNDRAISING/CAPITALIZATIONSupport development activities to raise needed capital for Self-Help's mission driven initiatives, which may include:New funding opportunities with active and potential fundersProposals and negotiations regarding terms and conditions for debt and equity fundingComplex finance closing processesFoster funding and partnership opportunities, which may include:Maintaining relationships with active funders and partner organizationsManaging or supporting engagement with external advisory or governing boardsAttending industry conferences or meetings as a Self-Help ambassador and to learn from industry best practices FUNDING COMPLIANCESupport or lead funding compliance of various debt and equity awards, which may include:Documenting, tracking and initiating scheduled payments on funding held by Self-HelpDocumenting and tracking commitments to fundersCompleting and submitting routine financial and impact reporting to funders Gathering and aligning data and information related to in-depth annual reviews and auditsManaging internal working groups to coordinate effective and mission aligned usage of debt and equity funding streams INTERNAL RELATIONSSupport various Development, Policy & Impact team activities and systems, which may include:Event planning and implementationGrant, deposit, policy and impact working group initiativesData and information systems, e.g. Salesforce, Sharepoint, Funding Impact and Compliance Dashboard, PowerBI OTHER • Perform other duties as may be deemed necessary. What you'll need:Associates degree in public policy, planning, finance or related field OR equivalent related experience.2 years' of experience in capital development, legal, lending, real estate development or accountingAbility to effectively plan, organize and prioritize multiple tasks and/or projects to meet deadlinesAbility to self-motivate, identify challenges and opportunities and coordinate team responsesStrong communication oral and written skillsKeen attention to detail and accuracyExperience in community development sector or with tax credit programs preferred.Strong commitment to our mission - creating economic opportunity for traditionally underserved communities.Preference for working in organizations that place priority on teamwork and collaboration.Ability and willingness to work beyond normal work hours, as needed.
