Controller
Fast growing masonry company is seeking an experienced, highly organized Controller to lead our accounting department and oversee the financial operations of our growing masonry company.
The Controller will supervise accounting staff, establish department priorities, review completed work, and ensure the company’s financial processes are accurate, efficient, and completed on schedule. This is a hands-on leadership position that works directly with ownership and management.
The ideal candidate is a confident leader who understands construction accounting, develops strong teams, and takes full ownership of the company’s financial reporting and accounting operations.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead, supervise, train, and support accounting department staff
* Assign responsibilities, establish deadlines, and monitor departmental workflow
* Review the work of accounting staff for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company procedures
* Establish accounting policies, internal controls, and standardized department processes
* Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, billing, collections, and general-ledger activity
* Manage monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes Prepare and review financial statements, management reports, budgets, forecasts, and cash-flow projections
* Maintain accurate job-cost reports and monitor project profitability, labor costs, material costs, and budget variances
* Oversee subcontractor payments, vendor records, lien waivers, W-9s, and 1099 reporting
* Review customer billing, progress billings, retainage, purchase orders, and change orders
* Work with outside CPAs, tax professionals, auditors, insurance representatives, and financial institutions
* Identify discrepancies, financial risks, and opportunities to improve profitability and efficiency
* Provide ownership and management with clear financial reporting and recommendations to support business decisions
Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
* Minimum of 3 years of progressive accounting experience
* Previous experience supervising or managing accounting employees required Experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar financial leadership position preferred
* Construction accounting experience strongly preferred; masonry or subcontractor accounting experience is a major plus
* Strong knowledge of job costing, work in progress, retainage, progress billing, and construction payroll
* Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel preferred
* Demonstrated leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
* Ability to delegate effectively, hold employees accountable, and manage competing deadlines
* High level of integrity and discretion when handling confidential information Ability to communicate professionally with accounting staff, field personnel, project managers, vendors, customers, and ownership
Pay: $94,402.92 - $113,689.54 per year
