This role goes beyond traditional help desk work and is designed for someone interested in IT operations, security, automation, and cloud environments.Unlike internships focused primarily on ticket resolution, this position emphasizes proactive IT operations and security improvement. While you will support Tier 1 help desk activities and device setup, your primary focus will be strengthening and improving the configuration, automation, monitoring, and security posture of our Microsoft and Google environments.This is not a summer-only internship. It is intentionally structured to help transition you from academia into a professional career in IT or Cybersecurity, working alongside experienced professionals and using real-world tools to protect organizational systems and data.Key ResponsibilitiesSecurity Monitoring & AutomationDesign and implement proactive monitoring solutions using Microsoft technologies, DAX, and Python to identify potential security concerns and operational risks.Assist in automating routine security and IT operational tasks using scripting and workflow tools.Audit, assess, and improve security configurations within Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace tenants.Support initiatives to strengthen identity, access, and tenant-level security controls.Build and maintain dashboards and reports using Power BI to visualize security metrics, trends, and anomalies.Translate technical data into clear, actionable insights for IT and security teams.IT SupportProvide Tier 1 help desk support for internal users, including hardware and software troubleshooting.Assist with new-hire onboarding, device provisioning, and first-time device configuration.Documentation & Knowledge ManagementDocument systems, processes, tools, and monitoring workflows to support long-term operational effectiveness.Contribute to a growing internal knowledge base for IT and security operations.Skill Development & Professional GrowthEngage in self-driven learning to expand skills in cybersecurity, automation, and scripting (Python and PowerShell).Learn industry best practices while gaining hands-on experience with enterprise IT and security tooling.Job RequirementsEducationCurrently enrolled as a Senior in an undergraduate program or a First-Year Master's student in:Information SystemsComputer ScienceCybersecurityor a closely related fieldJuniors with relevant work experience or certifications will also be consideredAvailabilityAbility to work 16–20 hours per weekOn-site position based in Springville, UTTechnical QualificationsBasic ability to troubleshoot IT issues across Windows and Mac environmentsStrong understanding of core programming conceptsFunctional understanding of Python, with a willingness to expand skills for automation purposesSoft SkillsSelf-motivated and comfortable solving loosely defined problemsCollaborative team player with clear written and verbal communication skillsPreferred Skills (Bonus Points)Familiarity with data modeling languages (DAX) and/or Power BIExperience with scripting or automation, such as:PythonPowerShellGoogle Apps ScriptExposure to Microsoft security tools (e.g., Defender, Sentinel) or Google Admin ConsoleStrong interest in pursuing security certifications, such as:CompTIA Security+SSCPCISSPWhat We OfferReal Career Pathway A 12–18 month internship with a strong possibility of a full-time offer upon graduationMentorship Direct guidance from experienced Data and IT professionalsMeaningful Impact The opportunity to build tools and scripts that are actively used to secure the organizationSchedule Flexibility A work schedule designed to accommodate university courseworkSummaryCompany OverviewAt CenCore Group, we take security solutions from the industry standard to the CenCore standard.
