Design Engineer

The Design Engineer is an integral member of AdvanTec Marine’s engineering team. The Design Engineer will be involved in all aspects of product design. Their knowledge and experience equip them to be involved from conceptual designs through to the release of the finished product. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the marine industry. They will have the skill sets to produce CAD drawings, 3D models and BOMS.
Top Responsibilities
Produce models and corresponding drawings for new and existing products as needed for sales, procurement and production teams.
Work with sales and engineering management to support the development of ROI business models on all new product and process proposals.
Produce finalized bills of materials as needed for procurement and production teams.
Lead design aspects of DFMA initiatives and regularly propose product and process improvements.
Provide drawings and modelling as required by sales and engineering team for proposals and baseline reviews.
Participate in design reviews
Set up test documentation
Liaise in a professional manner with clients, consultants, contractors and vendors as required.
Work closely with various departments including sales, service, supply chain and manufacturing.
Work in accordance with documented procedures and complete all applicable records.
Oversee development and prototype production of all new products
Provide product or process improvements on existing product

Preference for individuals with specific areas of knowledge:
Steel and aluminum material design
Fabrication and machining manufacturing processes
Hydraulics and pneumatics
Marine fixtures such as doors, hatches, and scuttles
NAVSEA regulations
Qualifications and Work Experience
Mechanical or Design engineering diploma or degree.
3-5 years’ experience with SolidWorks and AutoCAD 2D.
A proven track record designing in Solid Works, using 3D modelling, and presenting animated models
Intermediate to advanced experience with current generation Microsoft Office software
Marine or Naval Architect accreditation an asset (specifically outfitting and ships structural design) DFME and DFM experience an asset
System engineering and integration experience an asset
Marine experience preferred
Hydraulic and Pneumatic experience an asset
Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on design and testing skills
Excellent organizational and time management skills
