*Job Summary:*
Vertex Solutions is seeking a Senior Software Engineer – Warfighter Simulation Systems to design, develop, integrate, and sustain software models supporting advanced military aviation training and simulation systems.
This position will have direct responsibility for the development of warfighter ownship models and associated aircraft and mission-system capabilities. The successful candidate will combine strong software engineering fundamentals with applicable military aviation and simulation domain knowledge, including aircraft systems, avionics, flight models, flight controls, radar, offensive systems, defensive systems, and related mission capabilities.
This is not solely a coding role. The Software Engineer is expected to understand the operational and technical intent of assigned capabilities; decompose requirements; develop a sound technical design; implement and unit-test software; maintain configuration control; and support integration through demonstration and delivery.
The ideal candidate understands both how the software works and what the warfighter needs the simulated system to do.
*Primary Responsibilities: *
_Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions._
*Ownship & Mission-System Development*
* Design, develop, integrate, test, and sustain software models representing military aircraft and associated ownship capabilities.
* Develop simulated aircraft systems and behaviors including, as applicable:
* Aircraft systems and avionics
* Flight dynamics and flight models
* Flight-control systems
* Navigation and flight-management functions
* Radar and sensor systems
* Offensive systems and weapons employment
* Defensive systems and threat response
* Electronic warfare and countermeasure systems
* Communications and tactical systems
* Cockpit controls, displays, and pilot interfaces
* Translate aircraft, subsystem, interface, and operational requirements into software capabilities and behaviors.
* Work with pilots, operational SMEs, systems engineers, integration engineers, and other developers to ensure simulated behaviors accurately represent the intended platform and mission capability.
* Troubleshoot software and system-level issues identified during integration, test, demonstration, and customer evaluation.
* Support software integration into distributed and system-level simulation environments.
*Software Engineering Lifecycle*
The Software Engineer will be responsible for assigned capabilities throughout the development lifecycle and is expected to:
* Analyze and decompose system and software requirements into implementable software requirements and development tasks.
* Identify dependencies, interfaces, assumptions, constraints, and technical risks before beginning implementation.
* Develop and document an appropriate software design and technical approach prior to coding.
* Review proposed designs with engineering leads, subject-matter experts, and other stakeholders as appropriate.
* Develop maintainable, reusable, and testable software in accordance with established coding standards and architectures.
* Develop and execute unit tests to verify software functionality prior to system integration.
* Perform peer reviews and participate in technical design and code reviews.
* Maintain software under established configuration-management and version-control processes.
* Support integration, regression testing, defect resolution, verification, and validation.
* Maintain appropriate technical documentation throughout development and delivery.
Successful development is measured by working, integrated capability, not simply completion of code.
*Warfighter & Mission-Domain Knowledge*
Applicable warfighter and military aviation domain knowledge is highly valued for this position.
Candidates should have experience or demonstrated knowledge in one or more of the following areas:
* Military aircraft systems
* Aircraft avionics
* Flight dynamics and flight models
* Flight-control systems
* Radar and sensor systems
* Air-to-air and/or air-to-ground mission systems
* Weapons and stores management
* Radar warning and threat-detection systems
* Electronic warfare and electronic countermeasures
* Targeting and sensor systems
* Communications and tactical datalinks
* Cockpit displays and pilot interfaces
* Distributed Mission Operations
* Live, Virtual, and Constructive training environments
The successful candidate should be capable of working beyond a written requirement to understand the operational intent and expected behavior of the modeled system.
Experience developing software for military flight simulators, mission trainers, weapons-system trainers, operational flight trainers, training devices, aircraft systems, or related defense simulation environments is strongly preferred.
*Agile Development & Program Execution*
Vertex operates in an Agile engineering environment. Software Engineers are expected to take ownership of both their technical work and the commitments made to the broader team.
Responsibilities include:

· Develop credible Level-of-Effort (LOE) estimates for assigned work.
· Identify dependencies, technical risks, and blockers early.
· Maintain accurate and timely status of assigned activities in Jira.
· Communicate when work is at risk of exceeding planned effort or schedule.
· Demonstrate completed functionality during sprint reviews, engineering demonstrations, integration events, and customer demonstrations.
· Collaborate across engineering disciplines to support sprint and program objectives.
· Own assigned work from initial requirement through integration and demonstration.
