DescriptionAbout the OpportunityLifeline of Ohio is seeking clinically strong, mission-driven professionals to join our team as a Night Shift Organ Recovery Specialist (ORS) - an advanced hybrid role that combines organ donor management and surgical recovery expertise.RoleWe recognize that candidates with both skill sets are rare. That’s why this role is intentionally designed for experienced clinicians who are ready to expand their scope:Organ Recovery Coordinators (ORCs) who want to gain operating room and surgical recovery expertise ORSurgical Recovery Specialists / OR professionals looking to develop donor management and clinical coordination skillsAs an ORS, you will be trained and supported to become a fully cross-functional clinical expert, playing a critical role across the entire organ donation and recovery process.What You’ll DoDonor Management & Clinical Coordination (ORC Scope)Evaluate potential organ donors and determine medical suitability Partner with hospital teams to stabilize and manage donors prior to recovery Coordinate the full donation process, including authorization readiness and clinical documentation Manage donor testing, labs, and organ allocation coordinationEnsure accurate, real-time documentation in donor systems (iTransplant, DonorNet) Surgical Recovery & OR-Based Responsibilities (SRS Scope)Coordinate and support organ recovery procedures in the operating room Serve in a scrub/technical surgical role during organ procurement Prepare and manage organ preservation (cold storage and/or mechanical perfusion) Package and transport organs in compliance with UNOS/OPTN standards Collaborate directly with transplant surgeons and OR teamsAdvanced ORS-Level ImpactOptimize organ utilization through strong clinical judgment and coordinationServe as a resource to clinical teams and support continuous improvement initiativesContribute to staff development and hospital education effortsWho This Role Is Perfect ForYou may be a fit if you are:An Organ Recovery Coordinator ready to gain surgical/OR experienceA Surgical Recovery Specialist, Scrub Tech, or OR professional interested in moving upstream into donor managementAn ICU/critical care clinician with transplant or donation exposure seeking a highly specialized roleLooking to work 12hr shifts, 3x a weekRequirementsEducation and Experience: Clinical background required (RN, Paramedic, Surgical Tech, or related field)One of the following experience paths:Organ Recovery / Organ Procurement experienceOR / surgical recovery / scrub tech experienceStrong understanding of clinical care, sterile technique, or donor management principlesAbility to obtain and maintain BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications Strong communication, adaptability, and decision-making skills in high-pressure environmentsWhat Sets You ApartDesire to expand your clinical skillset across both ICU and OR environmentsAbility to stay calm and decisive in fast-paced, emotionally complex situationsPassion for organ donation and making a life-saving impactInterest in long-term growth into advanced ORS or leadership pathwaysWork EnvironmentWork is typically performed in a standard office setting working at a desk or table on a level surface with on-call responsibilities. Travel expected within donation service area with occasional out-of-state meetings. May be required to work more hours than normal during a regular workweek depending on donor activity and other requirements. A flexible work schedule may be required to accommodate donor activity and to ensure the department is appropriately staffed 24/7, 365 days a year.These positions and tiers are all classified as a high exposure (clinical) occupation and do require Blood borne Pathogens Training and protection.
