Milling Machine Operator

Lone Star Paving is a paving contractor, operating in the Central Texas region with paving crews, HMA, aggregate, trucking, milling, and quality control. We pride ourselves in being a family-oriented organization with a goal of upholding the safety and health of our number one asset, our employees.Position OverviewThe Milling Machine Operator will work closely with the Milling Manager and Maintenance Team to ensure consistent, safe, and efficient operation of milling machinery to minimize downtime and optimize production.The ideal candidate has experience with milling work particularly relating to asphalt, HMA, and aggregate industries. They should be able to address mechanical issues and ensure the safe practices of all employees.Key ResponsibilitiesOperate heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment.Knowledge to load trucks correctly; keep loads centered and not over load the trucksFollow grades, run slope, and watch and mark manholes and valvesHave a high level of situational awareness and keep look out for other workers and equipment in the immediate area; work together with ground crew to maintain the safety of all employeesOperate other heavy equipment and other construction related duties as required. Collaboration - Working closely with operators and maintenance technicians to identify and address issues impacting production. Additional responsibilities as may be assumed or assigned as needed in support of our company's effort to achieve client loyalty.QualificationsMinimum of 2-3+ years' experience within the road construction industry1-3+ years of qualified experience operating milling machineryUnderstanding of diagnostics, maintenance, and operation of milling machinesMechanical aptitude and in-depth knowledge of industrial machineryAbility to work in a demanding, fast-paced environmentPhysical ability to work outdoors in various conditions and stand for extended periods of timeMust be organized with a detail-oriented mindsetMust be positive, friendly, and professionalAbility to work well with others in a group or one-on-one settingPromote, execute and adhere to the company's safety policy, and encourage all employees, subcontractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself, or endanger the wellbeing of others.Promote a team approach and maintain dialogue with all employees to exchange information and gather ideas.Collaborate with any project teams on other special initiatives, as required.Knowledge/Skill RequirementsIndustrial experience - Previous experience working in an industrial setting, preferably within a milling plant.Technical skills - Ability to use equipment, hand tools, and power tools effectivelyMechanical aptitude - Basic understanding of mechanical systems within the plant to diagnose areas of concern.Problem-solving skills - Ability to analyze problems, identify root causes, and strategize with management and maintenance teams to implement solutions.Safety awareness - Commitment to following all safety protocols and regulations.Ability to engage in a variety of tasks simultaneously and consistently meet deadlines.Must demonstrate professional communication in reaching out to employees and managers for needed documentsWillingness to take on additional tasks and responsibilities as they ariseExhibit excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize various tasks and complete them in a timely mannerAble to perform duties independentlyWorking knowledge of aggregate plants and associated equipment, and an understanding of operations and safety requirements is preferredFamiliarity with MSHA and OSHA regulations, a plusHigh School diploma or GED, a plus but not requiredWorking ConditionsBe available for overtime, extended hours, night shifts, and weekends as requiredSome travel may be required as our operations span throughout TexasWork will be performed in both a general warehouse environment as well as a construction site environment, which could include but not be limited to inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.Must be able to move over rough terrain on project sitesMust comply with the company's drug and alcohol testing requirements.Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required.Proper PPE is required at all times.Requires periodic participation and attendance at company events and meetingsBenefitsThis position is FULL TIMEThe pay structure for this role will be based on competitive salaryThis position will qualify for the employee benefit programComprehensive medical, dental, and disability benefits programs401k retirement planEmployee Stock Purchase ProgramThe above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification.
