Plant Accountant

The Manufacturing Plant Accountant is responsible for overseeing all financial activities at the plant level, ensuring accurate cost accounting, strong internal controls, and timely financial reporting. This role partners closely with plant leadership to drive operational performance, improve profitability, and support data-driven decision making. This individual is the sole person at the plant level responsible for all Accounting/Finance matters.Key Responsibilities include but not limited to:Financial Management & ReportingLead all plant accounting activities, including month-end close, journal entries, accruals, and financial statementsPrepare and analyze monthly operating results, including variance analysis vs. budget and forecastEnsure compliance with GAAP, corporate policies, and internal controlsCost AccountingMaintain and manage standard costing systems for raw materials, labor, and overheadAnalyze manufacturing variances (material, labor, overhead, yield, PPV, scrap) and provide actionable insightsPartner with operations to identify cost reduction and productivity improvement opportunitiesBudgeting & ForecastingLead the annual plant budget and periodic forecast processesSupport long-range planning and capital expenditure analysis (ROI, payback, IRR)Track and report on KPIs tied to plant performanceInventory & ControlsOversee inventory accounting, cycle counts, and physical inventoriesEnsure accurate valuation of inventory and work-in-processStrengthen internal controls and safeguard plant assetsBusiness PartnershipAct as a financial advisor to the Plant Manager and operations leadershipSupport continuous improvement, Lean, and operational excellence initiativesProvide financial modeling and scenario analysis to support strategic decisionsLeadership & CollaborationLead, mentor, and develop plant accounting staff (if applicable)Collaborate with corporate finance, supply chain, and operations teamsQualificationsEducation & ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (MBA or CPA/CMA preferred)3-10+ years of accounting/finance experience in a manufacturing companyStrong background in cost accounting and plant-level financial managementSkills & CompetenciesDeep understanding of standard costing and manufacturing financialsStrong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skillsExperience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, JD Edwards, etc.)Advanced Excel skills; Power BI or similar tools a plusAbility to influence operations leaders and drive accountability************** Relocation Assistance is not Available*******************
