Volunteers may provide direct patient/family care, bereavement support, or administrative assistance, supporting the hospice agency's goal of quality patient/family care. Assignments are matched to the volunteer's experience, training, and interests, and all work is performed under the supervision of an agency employee.QualificationsEducation:Work ExperienceH.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) PreferredLess than 6 months of relevant experience Required and Completion of Volunteer Training Program RequiredMature, non-judgmental, caring, people-oriented individual supportive of the home health concept of care RequiredLicenses And CertificationsNoneKey ResponsibilitiesProvide assistance to the hospice program and/or patient/family in accordance with designated activitiesProvide input into the Plan of Care and Interdisciplinary Group meetings as applicableCommunicate availability and schedule changes to supervisor Accurately document services provided as trained and instructed by the hospice agencyMaintain strict patient and family confidentialityCommunicate any changes in patient/family status or observations to assigned supervisor and/or AdministratorAttend at least four (4) in-services per year Complete all mandatory trainingsSubmit annual renewable documents timely Participate in community outreach projects for the agencyBereavement Volunteer: Knowledge of the death and dying process Interacts with families in a caring and compassionate manner. Assists with arrangements after death, memorial services, and community education on end-of-life issues Maintains strict bereaved confidentialityPatient Care Volunteer: Knowledge of hospice and end-of-life care Provides companionship and activities (reading, life review, games, yard work, animal care, respite, etc.) Records accurate, legible, timely, and objective documentation of each patient/family encounter.
