Outdoor Landscape Exhibits Associate

Position Objective: This role supports the Museum's outdoor campus by maintaining horticultural spaces, assisting with outdoor exhibits, and ensuring a safe, engaging environment for visitors.ResponsibilitiesAssist Outdoor Exhibits staff in:Install, care, and removal of plants and trees.Maintain hardscapes and stormwater system devices, and all outdoor public spaces.Assist in the installation of new outdoor exhibit experiences.Interact with visitors as required about exhibits and grounds during open hours.Become knowledgeable about topics that relate to enhancing the Museum's horticultural practices throughout the Museum property.Become knowledgeable about outdoor exhibit function and performance standards.Act to collaborate and cooperate on joint projects with other museum staff (Facilities Dept., Animal Dept., etc.).Facilitate reset of outdoor exhibit spaces daily.Always demonstrate adherence to Museum safety procedures.Engage with Museum visitors in a positive and helpful way to support an enjoyable and safe guest experience.Prioritize the Museum's values of inclusion and kindness in all interactions with staff, volunteers, and guests.Additional job-related duties as needed.QualificationsRequired DesiredHigh School DiplomaValid NC Driver's LicenseKnowledge of local plants, ecology, growing conditions, and environmentAbility to positively engage customers: greet, interact, identify needs, and assist themFamiliarity with landscape maintenance tools and operationExperience in operating machinery and power tools associated with landscape maintenance.Physical ability to lift and carry 50 lbs, operate simple tools associated with landscaping and carpentryAbility to be on one's feet for up to 8 hours at a time and walk distances of up to three miles over varying terrainsTolerate weather extremes working outdoor year-roundAbility to work one day of weekendGeneral computer skillsExperience working in large outdoor gardens/landscapesExperience/license in plant pest managementExperience in site grading and hardscaping
