Mechanical Engineer
About the jobAbout Kora Kora is building the future of home energy and grid management. Our Smart Panel, Powerblocks, Power App, and Energy Trading platform give homeowners control over every watt — from solar to batteries to grid. We're on a mission to end blackouts, slash energy bills, and empower every home to profit from clean energy.Kora is led by a team of veteran entrepreneurs and engineers including serial entrepreneur Greg Connolly who has raised >$45M and did >$500M at his previous company Trifecta. The Mission Kora Power is on a mission to transform how homes interact with electricity. We aren't just making another gadget; we are building a fully integrated residential energy platform, including smart electrical panels, modular batteries, and hybrid inverters, to give homeowners unprecedented control over their energy. We are looking for a world-class Mechanical Engineer who turns complex electrical and battery designs into rugged, manufacturable, thermally bulletproof products. This isn't just a design job; it's an opportunity to be at the heart of hardware innovation for the clean energy transition. Why This Role?Ownership: You'll own the mechanical architecture — enclosures, structures, thermal paths, and packaging — that makes our electronics safe, serviceable, and ready to ship.Innovation: You'll design next-generation smart panels, batteries, and home energy hardware that doesn't exist yet.High Impact: Your designs keep mission-critical hardware cool, sealed, and reliable in every Kora home, and directly accelerate our time-to-market.What You'll Do (The Impact)Design Mechanical Architecture: Develop mechanical designs, 3D models, drawings, and documentation for product enclosures, structural members, mounting and bracketry, thermal paths, sealing, and component packaging.Integrate the Platform: Collaborate with electrical, firmware, and software teams to ensure proper mechanical fit, thermal performance, and serviceability across the smart panel, inverter, and energy storage subsystems.Prototype & Validate: Support hardware builds, bench testing, thermal and structural characterization, environmental and durability testing, and iterative design improvements.Troubleshoot at the System Level: Diagnose issues in enclosures, thermal management, mounting hardware, sealing, and structural elements — then implement the fix.Own Compliance: Apply UL, IEC, ASTM, and IP ingress-protection standards to your designs and work directly with certification bodies.Optimize Performance & Safety: Use measurement tools and FEA/CFD simulation to evaluate thermal behavior, structural integrity, and reliability, and drive enhancements.Define the Spec: Set mechanical requirements, material and component selection criteria, and performance targets for product subsystems. What We're Looking For:Education: Bachelor's or Master's in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, with strong grounding in mechanical design, heat transfer, and materials and structural analysis.Technical Mastery: 3+ years in mechanical design, product development, thermal or structural engineering, or related fields. Energy storage systems, power-electronics enclosures, or residential hardware experience is a strong plus.Tool Fluency: Proficiency in mechanical design, GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, and DFM/DFA using SolidWorks, Creo, or NX, plus thermal (CFD) and structural (FEA) simulation in ANSYS, Abaqus, or COMSOL.Manufacturing Know-How: Familiarity with manufacturing processes (sheet metal, injection molding, die casting, machining) and materials selection.Standards Savvy: Working familiarity with UL 1973, UL 9540, IEC and ASTM standards, IP ingress-protection ratings, and general product-safety practices.Detail-Oriented & Safety-First: Strong documentation habits and a deep commitment to safety, quality, and compliance.Compensation: Pay based on experience, technical ability, and impact.
