Elementary MLL Teacher (Queens)Mission Statement: The Growing Up Green Charter School (GUGCS) supports children to be conscious, contributing members of their community through a rigorous, anti-racist, anti-bias, curriculum and an engaging green culture. Graduates of GUGCS will be prepared to attend high-performing schools where their interdisciplinary academic foundation, knowledge of sustainability, and strong sense of self sets them apart as leaders and social justice advocates of the future.Content Responsibilities:Collaborate and co-plan with classroom teachers to scaffold GUGCS curricular programs for ELLsFacilitate push-in and pull-out direct instruction with English Language Learners, (ELLs), and former ELLsDetermine students needs by analyzing Home Language Questionnaires and administering the NYSITELL and NYSESLAT exams as neededReview formal and informal assessment data with classroom teachers and/or advisors in order to track student progress and ensure the proper amount of supportKeep families informed of student performance and progressEmploy approaches that address multiple types of learners, (visual, sensory, kinesthetic, audio)Actively participate in the school community through staff meetings, professional development opportunities, staff committees, and school events.Respond productively to ongoing, year-round professional feedbackSchool Wide Responsibilities:Utilize the Responsive Classroom approach to discipline and community-buildingEstablish and maintain ongoing positive relationships and communication with familiesActively participate in the school community: weekly staff meetings, PD opportunities, department meetings, and school eventsWork with an instructional coach on improving teaching practices throughout the yearRespond productively to ongoing, year-round professional feedbackDemonstrate commitment to working with diverse populations of families and students, including those at-riskPerform other school-wide responsibilitiesMinimum Qualifications:Strong commitment to Growing Up Green Charter School's missionStrong commitment to a multi-sensory teaching approachDemonstrates the ability to work collaboratively with a team of teachersDemonstrates initiative and flexibility in scheduling changes to meet all student needsExcellent organizational skillsDeep respect for other cultures and customsStarting salary is $62,902. Salaries are determined using an equitable compensation scale that accounts for years of experience as lead teacher in a K-12 setting and levels of attained educationEducation:Bachelor's Degree Required, Master's Degree PreferredTeaching Certification in TESOL RequiredCandidates fluent in Spanish are highly encouraged to applyRequired Certificates &Licenses:* NY Teaching Certification* NYC DOE/Fingerprinting & Background Clearance
