Lead Engineer - Market Data Platform

Title: Lead Engineer / Architect – Market Data PlatformClient: Hedge FundLocation: NYCI’m advising a multi-billion dollar Fund in NYC hiring a Lead Engineer / Architect to build a next-generation market data platform from the ground up. This is a true greenfield opportunity to define architecture, tooling, and engineering standards from day one, delivering a scalable, low-latency platform that directly supports trading and research.This role combines hands-on engineering with technical leadership — you’ll set direction, make key design decisions, and own how market data is ingested, modeled, and distributed across the firm.What you’ll do:• Own the end-to-end architecture and build of a modern market data platform• Design and implement scalable pipelines for ingesting and processing vendor data (real-time and batch)• Define canonical data models, symbology mapping, and distribution layers across asset classes• Evaluate and select core technologies, shaping the long-term data stack• Optimize for performance, latency, and reliability, including caching and streaming patterns• Partner closely with traders, quants, and engineers to deliver high-impact data solutions• Lead, mentor, and set engineering standards while remaining hands-onWhat we’re looking for:• 10+ years in data engineering / architecture, building distributed data systems at scale• Strong hands-on experience with Python, SQL, and modern data pipeline frameworks• Experience in a multi-strategy hedge fund, asset manager, or leading market data provider (e.g., Bloomberg, LSEG,ICE Data Services)• Deep experience with AWS-based data platforms and cloud-native design• Strong understanding of market data (e.g., tick, reference, pricing data) and vendor ecosystems• Experience driving architectural decisions and leading engineering teams
