The district is partnering with SchoolSmartKC on literacy intervention, looking for a tutor. SchoolSmartKC (SSKC) is a charitable, non-profit organization that works toward significant improvement in the performance of schools in the Kansas City Public Education system. With substantial funding from key investors, including the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, the Hall Family Foundation, and the Walton Family Foundation, SSKC aims to close the opportunity gap between students in our local District and Charter schools and their higher-performing peers across the state of Missouri and the nation. Please see job description attached.Skills and Qualifications:Understanding of/willing to learn about literacy development, reading strategies, and the Science of Reading principlesExperience working with students on reading and literacy, preferredExcellent communication skills and the ability to build rapport with students from diverse backgrounds.Patience, adaptability, and a passion for helping students succeed.A degree/training in education, literacy studies, or a related field preferredDesire to continue professional developmentExcellent organization skills and an ability to coordinate multiple tasks and activitiesOutstanding verbal and written communication skills and an ability to keep multiple stakeholder groups, including parents, teachers, staff, volunteers, and partners, informed of critical issues, activities, and schedules.An ability and enthusiasm for promoting the school and its mission to a broad and diverse group.Excellent work ethic, positive attitude, flexibility, and willingness to perform tasks assignedDemonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students and teachers in school environment and community.Must pass a background checkA screening application with SchoolSmartKC must be completed prior to apply for the position with Hickman Mills Distirct:Please send a cover letter and resume to hr@schoolsmartkc.org with application reviews beginning by January 6, 2025.
