future structured cable requirements and deploymentsDrive structured cable innovation within Uber's data centers and across the industryReview structured cable designs for feasibility & operational uptimeData Center Engineering, Design & RetrofitPrepare conceptual design documents illustrating structured cabling & physical networking systems and topology requirementsPrepare structured cabling & networking system design criteria and specifications for data center retrofitsPrepare cost analysis and business cases for structured cable build-outs, retrofits and infrastructure improvementsReview structured cable test scripts, procedures, and resultsTravel to data center sites to oversee structured cabling system retrofits, testing and network turn-upData Center Engineering, Technical OperationsAssist in managing relationships with data center service providers, contractors, manufacturers and suppliersDrive technical operations innovation and efficiency within Uber's data centersCollaborate with the on-site data center operations to improve workflow efficiency of structured & patch cable systems, testing & troubleshootingReview with partner teams to ensure continued service delivery during structured cable & physical network system retrofits and preventive maintenancesReview structured cable system operation configurations for compliance with SLAsDevelopment and execution of structured cable & physical network system preventive maintenancesProvide communication to internal and external teams about structured cable & physical network system operation and limitations, as well as scheduled activities and maintenancesDevelopment and continuous improvement of MOPs, SOPs, Change Management requests, etc. for Uber procedures to external companiesParticipation with internal and external teams of potential data center structured cable & physical network service impacts and high risk activityRespond as-needed during data center outages and incidentsCollaborate and support partner teams to assist with power, cooling and network connectivity outagesParticipate in incident review meetings, root cause analysis investigations and discussionsTravel to data center sites for system audits, engineering studies, and as-built updates Basic QualificationsGeneralB.S. in mechanical, electrical or architectural engineering degreeMinimum 8 years of professional experience in data center design, construction and operations (RCDD is preferred)Travel to data center sites (25% to 50%)TechnicalDeep Domain ExperienceStructured Cabling & Networking Distribution: Basics of all layers plus cabling, optics and supporting infrastructureUnderstanding of mission critical structured cabling distribution that coincides with network topologiesUnderstanding of various components within structured cabling systems and designKnowledge of industry standards, BICSI and RCDD standardsEntry Level Domain ExperienceCooling: Theory, methods and efficiency (PUE)Understanding and working knowledge of mechanical air-side and water-side systems for mission critical environments and various data center HVAC topologiesAir-side design and distributionWet-side design and distribution (chilled and condenser water systems)CRAC and CRAH design and distributionUnderstanding of mechanical design and operational changes with varying rack power densityKnowledge of industry standards, ASHRAE, mechanical / building codes, and energy codesPower Distribution: Three-phase, conditioning, and distribution from utility to chipUnderstanding of mission critical power distribution, UPS, PDU and various data center electrical topologiesUnderstanding of electrical design and operational changes with varying rack power densityKnowledge of 7x24For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD $180,000 per year - USD $200,000 per year.For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD $180,000 per year - USD $200,000 per year.For all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. All full-time employees are eligible to participate in a 401(k) plan.
