Manager, 2nd Shift Production: Monday-Thursday 10hr Shift
Position Summary
The 2nd Shift Production Manager is a hands-on working leader responsible for machining and finishing operations during second shift. This role leads by example on the shop floor, actively supports production as needed, and ensures safety, quality, and delivery goals are met. The ideal candidate is comfortable running machines, troubleshooting processes, and making real-time decisions while managing people and priorities.
Key Responsibilities
Hands-On Production Leadership
Actively work on the shop floor as needed, including setup support, machine operation and troubleshooting
Support CNC machining, secondary operations, deburring, finishing and inspection
Address production bottlenecks in real time to keep work moving
Ensure production schedules are met while balancing quality and efficiency
People & Shift Management
Lead, coach, and support machinists, operators, and finishing personnel
Assign jobs and reassign labor based on workload, skill level, and priorities
Train employees on machines, processes, and standard work
Set clear expectations and hold the team accountable for performance, quality, and attendance
Quality & Problem Solving
Ensure parts meet print, customer, and quality requirements
Troubleshoot machining and finishing issues, including tooling, setups, and process flow
Work closely with Quality and Engineering on corrective actions and process improvements
Reduce scrap, rework, and downtime through hands-on problem solving
Safety & Shop Discipline
Lead safety by example and maintain a clean, organized shop
Enforce safety rules, PPE requirements, and safe machine operation
Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions
Communication & Coordination
Provide clear shift-to-shift handoff information, including production status and issues
Communicate equipment, tooling, and staffing needs
Coordinate with Maintenance, Engineering, and Scheduling to resolve issues quickly
Qualifications
Required
5+ years of experience in a machining environment with hands-on CNC experience
Prior leadership or lead-person experience in a production setting
Strong understanding of CNC machining, setups, tooling, and finishing processes
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and work instructions
Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
Preferred
Experience as a working lead, cell leader, or production supervisor
Familiarity with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement
Experience with ERP/MRP systems
Formal machining or manufacturing education
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $35.00 - $50.00 per hour
