Project Engineer (Entry Level) - Gas/Electric UtilitiesWe are seeking a self-sufficient, highly motivated Entry-Level Project Engineer with an entrepreneurial mindset to support gas and electric utility infrastructure projects within our growing Services group. This position offers hands-on exposure to all phases of utility project delivery and provides a strong foundation for long-term growth in the gas and electric utility industry.The Project Engineer will support the planning, design, and construction of utility projects by working closely with Project Managers, engineers, designers, and construction teams. Candidates should be technically curious, proactive, and motivated to grow both their skill set and the organization as a whole.ResponsibilitiesSupport Project Managers and senior engineers in the execution of gas and electric utility projects from planning through construction closeoutAssist with tracking project scope, schedules, budgets, and deliverables for assigned projects or work packagesCoordinate with internal teams (engineering, design, construction, procurement) to ensure tasks and technical deliverables are completed on timePrepare and maintain project documentation, including schedules, cost tracking logs, meeting notes, submittals, and project reportsAssist with monitoring key project metrics, critical path activities, risks, and change ordersSupport construction activities by tracking field progress, reviewing contractor documentation, and assisting with issue resolutionHelp prepare cost estimates, budget updates, forecasts, and invoice documentation under the guidance of senior staffInterface with utility clients, contractors, and third-party consultants as directed, serving as a technical and coordination resourceDevelop a working knowledge of gas and electric utility design standards, construction practices, and safety requirementsSupport procurement activities, including tracking material orders, vendor coordination, and delivery schedulesParticipate in quality control reviews of plans, specifications, and construction documentsAssist with data collection and analysis related to utility replacement, relocation, abandonment, and new installation projectsActively engage in training, mentorship, and continuous learning to build technical and project delivery skills in the utility industryQualificationsValid California driver’s licenseBachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical), Construction Management, or a related technical fieldEngineer-in-Training (EIT) preferred but not required0–2 years of experience in engineering, construction, utilities, or a related field (internships and co-op experience accepted)Interest in gas and electric utility infrastructure, including pipeline, distribution, transmission, and underground utility projectsBasic understanding of engineering concepts, construction workflows, and project documentationAbility to support project scope, schedule, compliance, and cost tracking with guidance from senior staffFamiliarity with public utility design or construction is a plus, but not requiredProficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); exposure to scheduling (P6) or project controls tools is a plusStrong organizational skills and attention to detailPositive attitude with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environmentStrong written and verbal communication skillsWillingness to learn utility standards, client requirements, and industry best practices
