On Call Program Assistant (Meals 4 Kids)
General Summary
On an on-call basis, responsible for assisting with preparing, packaging, and delivering meals, training and scheduling of volunteers, packing, pick-up and delivery activities, and maintaining accurate records for Meals 4 Kids participants and volunteers. Complete administrative tasks as assigned.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
Perform Meals on Wheels delivery duties for routes lacking volunteer coverage in the assigned service area
Ensure the proper preparation and on-time delivery of meals to program participants by following all standards
Follow up with the participant if a driver is unable to deliver the meal. Redeliver meals as necessary
Assist with the scheduling of volunteer drivers for each route as needed
Assist with meal preparation and packaging following Meals on Wheels People standards
Assist in cleaning and sanitizing cooler bags at the end of each day
Assist M4K Program and Central Kitchen staff and volunteers as needed
Complete administrative tasks as assigned
Assist with Community Dinners as needed
Participate in in-service training and attend required meetings
Other duties as assigned
Education & Knowledge
High School diploma or equivalent
Valid Food Handlers Certification or ability to obtain within two weeks
Valid drivers license, auto insurance, and transportation required
Skills, Abilities & Experience
Bilingual/Bicultural English/Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Asian, or African languages preferred
Ability to work with and manage volunteers
Strong organizational, record-keeping, time management and multi-tasking skills, including the ability to set priorities and be flexible to last-minute changes
Ability to work in a team environment and effectively communicate with diverse populations, including minorities, low-income, and persons with disabilities
Ability to repetitively move 35lbs; routinely moves cooler and cooler bags from one location to another and from various heights in preparation of and for the completion of meal delivery; ability to ascend stairs and move around on city sidewalks
Ability to quickly learn new computer programs; experience with client data management systems preferred
Any satisfactory combination of experience, training and/or education which ensures the ability to perform the work may substitute for the above qualifications.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
Fast paced, with significant people interaction
Frequent driving throughout service area
Frequent navigation of sidewalks, apartment buildings and stairways May be required to move up to 50lbs, 35lbs repetitively and ability to frequently position self to stoop, bend and crouch
Frequent use of knives and cooking utensils, stove, oven and other kitchen equipment
Sitting for short periods of time and typing
Dexterity of hands and fingers required for operation of general office equipment
May be required to work evenings and weekends for special events
Must successfully pass Meals on Wheels People pre-employment screening
