Engineering Manager

Position Summary A global Japanese-affiliated company is seeking a Founding Engineering Manager to establish and lead the engineering function in the company. This role will be responsible for building and scaling the U.S.-based engineering organization that powers our device lifecycle, logistics, and marketplace platforms. Responsibilities Build and lead the engineering organization, including hiring, mentoring, and managing engineering talent. Cultivate a strong engineering culture emphasizing ownership, operational excellence, and continuous improvement. Define engineering processes, team structures, and industry best practices. Partner with executive and operations leadership to ensure engineering initiatives align with overall business goals. Ensure the stability, reliability, and performance of critical production systems. Establish and manage production support functions such as incident response, on-call rotations, root cause analysis, and system reliability improvements. Implement operational excellence practices, including monitoring, observability, and performance tuning. Drive engineering accountability for production environments and operational continuity. Collaborate with global engineering partners to develop and support shared technology initiatives. Coordinate development and operational efforts across multiple regions, including Japan and the United States. Promote effective communication and execution across distributed teams. Lead the development and enhancement of internal platforms, warehouse systems, and operational tools. Work closely with Product Managers and business stakeholders to deliver high-impact solutions. Improve software development efficiency and predictability across teams. Qualifications 7+ years of experience in software engineering. 3+ years of experience leading or managing software engineers. Experience building or scaling engineering teams or technical organizations. Experience owning and operating production systems. Strong understanding of modern software development practices, including: Git, CI/CD, DevOps, cloud infrastructure, software lifecycle management. Experience working with cross-functional stakeholders. Strong leadership, ownership, and communication skills. Ability to commute to Long Island, NY (hybrid work model). Preferred Requirements Experience in logistics, warehouse management, or supply chain systems. Experience working with global or distributed engineering teams. Experience with Google Cloud Platform or AWS. Experience designing and operating scalable backend systems. Experience with Go, Python, or TypeScript. Experience Establishing Engineering Teams Or Functions From Early Stages Experience working within global corporations or enterprise environments. Business-level Japanese proficiency.
