Apply today and be more with Baker.SummaryThe Formwork Engineer III oversees and participates in the design and preparation of formwork layout drawings addressing the technical aspects of formwork layout, forming materials, system selection, and proper implementation. Participates in the project planning to ensure the most efficient, safe, and economical forming systems are incorporated in the project design. Must sign, stamp, and approve design work.Roles and ResponsibilitiesThe Formwork Engineer III will perform the following duties in a safe, productive, and effective manner: Provides Engineering input for proper form selectionCalculates loads for shoring, forming and reshoringDetermines member sizes and proper spacing Ensures formwork loads fall within the capacities of the craneConfirms framing layouts meet the design load requirementsDesigns lifting and rigging equipment Designs temporary bracing for existing structures such as walls and floorsReviews the designs and calculations of Formwork EngineersIdentifies and resolves any unique design issues on the projectDetermines final crane placement based on foundation and load designsOversees:Production of formwork shop drawings based on the design of the chosen formwork systemProduction of pour break drawingsProduction of crane layout drawingsReview of construction drawings for dimensional conflicts and clarificationsIssuing of RFIs to resolve conflicts. Production of repetitive drawings for typical formwork layout. Maintenance of project drawing filesPlotting and assembly of drawings per standards set by the Engineering DepartmentCompares and checks production drawings to the design criteria of the construction documents Identifies safety issues on the drawingsCommunicates with the field on drawing conflicts and issues related to formwork and brings resolutionMaintains standard detail libraryEnsures critical framing sections are shown on the drawingsReviews and critiques vendor supplied drawingsParticipates in transition meetings to determine production schedule for shop and engineering drawings and work order productionQuantity take-offs of form material to the shop for fabrication and shipmentShop production with the field progressWork orders to shop for pre-assembly of forms to be shipped to the fieldDelivery dates for formwork delivered to projectPerforms pre pour inspectionsTrains and qualifies others to do independent pre pour inspectionsCritically views all aspects of construction designSupervises, trains, evaluates, and develops team members to ensure maximum return on investment. Ensures support managers within area of responsibility also supervise, train, evaluate and develop their direct reports. RequirementsBachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in the field of Civil or Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology; and a minimum of six years related experience and/or training; Licensed Professional Engineer Proficiency in Microsoft software programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPointProficient in AutoCADBasic understanding of BIMThe following competencies are needed to successfully perform this job:Ability to understand, customize and modify spreadsheetsAbility to read, analyze, and interpret general business documents, technical procedures, and government regulations Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customersGood listening skillsAbility to comprehend documents such as blueprints and construction drawingsAbility to apply concepts such as algebra, fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions, geometry, trigonometry, and interpolation to practical situationsAbility to perform engineering analysis, such as load calculations, pressures, shear, moment, and deflection calculationsAbility to work in a team environmentAbility to interact with project personnel, clients, and EngineersAbility to define problems, gather data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusionsAbility to think outside of the boxAt Baker Construction, we welcome those who are driven to make things happen.
