Location: Sumiton, AL AreaSchedule: Monday through Thursday, 10 hour shifts, with overtime opportunities available on FridaysCompensation: $32 to $43/hour depending on experienceJob Type: Full Time, Non-ExemptPosition SummaryOur client is seeking experienced Manual Machinists to support the repair and manufacturing of custom gearbox and industrial components. This is a hands on machining role focused on high mix, low volume production and custom one off parts, not repetitive CNC production work.The ideal candidate will have experience operating manual machine tools, reading blueprints, maintaining tight tolerances, and producing precision components for industrial repair applications.Key ResponsibilitiesSet up and operate manual lathes, VTLs, milling machines, grinders, shapers, and related machining equipmentManufacture custom gears, shafts, and replacement components for gearbox rebuilds and industrial equipment repairsRead and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specificationsPerform precision measurements using micrometers, calipers, and related measuring instrumentsConduct reverse engineering on worn or damaged components to replicate original OEM specificationsMaintain close tolerances and high quality workmanship throughout machining processesTroubleshoot machining issues and make adjustments as neededSupport equipment maintenance, shop organization, and safe operating practicesCollaborate with gearbox technicians and operations personnel to meet production schedules and repair timelinesQualificationsExperience operating manual machine tools in a job shop or industrial environmentStrong blueprint reading and measurement skillsExperience machining custom or low volume parts preferredThis is not a CNC button pusher role, candidates must have hands on manual machining experienceMechanical aptitude and strong troubleshooting abilityHigh attention to detail and commitment to precision workmanshipAbility to work independently and manage multiple prioritiesCompensation & Benefits$32 to $43/hour depending on experience and manual machining backgroundNon-exempt role with overtime opportunities available, typically on FridaysHealth insurance and 401(k) offered2 weeks PTO to start with tenure based increases4 day workweek schedule, Monday through ThursdayEducation & ExperienceHigh school diploma or GED requiredTechnical training or machining certification preferredExperience in high mix, low volume machining environments strongly preferredPrior experience supporting gearbox repair, rotating equipment, or heavy industrial manufacturing is a plusBenefits:401(k)Health insurancePaid time offRelocation assistance
