Shipping Specialist – Corporate CoordinatorCompany: Virginia Transformer CorporationLocation: Roanoke, VA Department: Logistics / Manufacturing / QualityPosition SummaryThe Shipping Specialist – Corporate Coordinator is responsible for developing, standardizing, and optimizing shipping, packaging, and transportation processes across VTC manufacturing facilities. This role ensures safe, compliant, and efficient delivery of finished transformer products to customers, minimizing transit damage while meeting regulatory, customer, and operational requirements. The position serves as a subject matter expert in logistics, packaging, and transportation compliance across the U.S. and Mexico.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and standardize shipping, packaging, and transportation processes across multiple facilitiesEnsure compliance with CTPAT, OEA, ISTA, ISO standards, and transportation regulations in the U.S. and MexicoDefine and implement best practices for packaging methods, labeling, and finished product handlingEvaluate transportation modes, capacities, and routing strategies to optimize cost, safety, and delivery timelinesEstablish procedures to prevent transit damage, including packaging validation and load securement practicesOversee and support final product audits, including packaging verification, packing lists, and shipping documentationCollaborate with manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams to ensure readiness for shipmentLead root cause analysis and corrective actions for shipping-related issues, including damage, delays, or compliance gapsDrive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, APQP, and FMEA methodologiesDevelop and maintain shipping standards, procedures, and work instructionsConduct audits to ensure compliance with logistics processes and quality management systemsSupport customer-specific shipping requirements and special handling needsTrain and mentor plant personnel on packaging, shipping standards, and compliance requirementsQualificationsRequiredBachelor's degree in Industrial, Quality, Logistics Engineering, or related fieldMinimum 3+ years of experience in manufacturing, logistics, or quality engineeringStrong knowledge of transportation regulations, shipping processes, and packaging standardsExperience with CTPAT, OEA, ISTA, ISO standards, and cross-border shipping requirements (U.S./Mexico)Understanding of transport types, load capacities, and finished product handlingProven ability to apply root cause analysis toolsBilingual: English (B2/C1) and conversational SpanishStrong communication and cross-functional collaboration skillsPreferredKnowledge of packaging materials, pallets, crates, and containerization methodsExperience with shipping audits, documentation, and inspection processesFamiliarity with quality management systems and process auditingExperience with manufacturing tools and equipment related to packaging and shippingBackground in training, instruction, or technical developmentExperience in heavy industrial, transformer, or oversized equipment shippingCore CompetenciesLeadership: Ability to influence cross-functional teams without direct authorityStrategic Thinking: Understands integration between production, logistics, and customer delivery requirementsProblem Solving: Strong analytical and structured troubleshooting skillsCommunication: Effectively trains and empowers shop floor personnelAdaptability: Thrives in dynamic environments with changing logistics demandsAutonomy: Self-directed with strong prioritization and executionCompensation & BenefitsCompetitive salary based on experienceHealth, dental, and vision insurance401(k) with company matchPaid time off and holidaysCareer growth and development opportunitiesWhy Join Virginia Transformer CorporationPlay a key role in delivering critical power infrastructure productsOpportunity to standardize logistics processes across multiple facilitiesExposure to complex, large-scale industrial shipping operationsCollaborative and performance-driven culture
