Telecommunications Officer The City of Murphy Police Department seeks to add a Telecommunications Officer to its dynamic team! As our Telecommunications Officer, under direct supervision of the Telecommunications Supervisor, you will receive and dispatch requests for police, fire, ambulance, and animal control emergency and non-emergency services.Pay Plan: This opportunity is FLSA non-exempt and budgeted on Pay Grade #28. The pay plan range below is shown to represent opportunities for growth and development within this opportunity. We encourage interested candidates to apply as early as possible to ensure consideration.Schedule Commitment: MUST ACCEPT ON CALL DUTY STATUS AND WORK FLEXIBLE HOURS TO INCLUDE ALL SHIFTS INCLUDING NIGHTS, WEEKENDS, AND HOLIDAYSFor application support, or to check the status of your application, contact Human Resources by e-mailing hr@murphytx.org.Examples of Duties Operates a multi-line communication systemAnswer phones and directs callers to the appropriate city employeeMonitors and broadcasts on communication radio equipmentDispatches police, fire and emergency medical units and animal control as well as other city departments, such as public works and parks and recreation, as neededOperates various telecommunication, multi-channel radio equipment, and Enhanced 911 systemAssigns police, fire, and ambulance support elements to routine/emergency calls for serviceRecords all activities and locations of police units and animal control unitsUses computer terminals to make entries and inquiries and interprets the responses from various automated databasesProvides Emergency Medical Pre & Post Arrival InstructionsRetrieves Driver's License and Vehicle Registration data from computer systemChecks for outstanding warrants, stolen vehicles and articlesEnters and clears warrants and stolen articles from department to TCIC/NCIC computerOperates video recording, closed circuit television, and tape logging equipmentCommunicates with the hearing and speech impaired by a teletype systemScreens and forwards telephone calls for the police, fire department, and animal control departmentsIs aware of and able to review the city's crime analysis software, such as RaidsOn Line and review crime trends as indicated with their respective shifts regularlyAble to operate the city-wide locking control system, setting opening and closings according to scheduled eventsTypical Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSHigh School Graduate or General Education Diploma (GED)Licensed Telecommunicator or able to obtain license within specified period designated by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE)Valid Texas Class C Driver's License - driving record must be in compliance with City policySupplemental Information PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSTwo (2) years of municipal Police, Fire, and 911 enhanced dispatching experienceCurrent Telecommunications License as issued by TCOLECertified Emergency Medical DispatchSPECIAL REQUIREMENTSMay be required to pass a drug screen and/or pre-employment job performance assessmentMUST ACCEPT ON CALL DUTY STATUS AND WORK FLEXIBLE HOURS TO INCLUDE ALL SHIFTS INCLUDING NIGHTS, WEEKENDS, AND HOLIDAYS
