Credit Analyst
MidFirst Bank is seeking a Credit Analyst to conduct the underwriting process of commercial and industrial (C&I) customers supported through the Commercial Underwriting Department for the Western markets of AZ, UT, and NV. The analyst is expected to work closely with relationship managers to properly structure prospective loans to meet MidFirst Bank’s policies and to identify risks of the transaction. This individual will be responsible for independently underwriting commercial loan requests from financial statement spreading through loan approval memorandum preparation. The Western Markets Commercial Underwriting Department is a team oriented department in which the individual will have experienced peers for guidance and assistance as well as possible mentorship opportunities.Job Description Works with relationship managers to properly structure loan requests to meet MidFirst policy and desired risk appetite. In many cases, the individual will prepare pre-screen memorandums to pre-flight the request. Contacts internal and, occasionally, external customers to gather information and/or clarify information previously received. Analyzes corporate financials (tax returns, CPA Reviewed Financials, CPA Audits, SEC Filings) utilizing spreading software and other analytical tools to assess the company’s cash flow, leverage, and coverage ratios. Analyzes personal tax returns and other personal financial data to assess the strength of any personal obligors or business owners. Utilizes internal and external collateral evaluations to assess the secondary or tertiary source of repayment. Prepares loan approval memorandums used by senior management in approving loan requests. The memorandum identifies key risks of a transaction and applicable mitigating factors. The memorandum concisely and substantively incorporates the analytical work in a way that can be easily digested by all parties. Periodically reviews existing loan customers for annual reviews and covenant monitoring. Works independently to efficiently service and support the department’s internal and external customers. Applicants may be asked to serve as subject matter experts for certain industries or loan types.Competencies Effective written and oral communication skills Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills Accuracy and attention to detail Experience spreading and analyzing corporate financial statements Strong technical writing abilities Ability to manage to pre-determined deadlines and effectively manage competing priorities Understanding of collateral lien perfection for various collateral types Prior experience using IBS Insight, Moody’s Risk Analyst, Moody’s CreditLens, Fidelity Information Services, Hyland Software OnBase and Metavante BankerInsight preferred.Requirements Minimum of one to five years of experience in a C&I analyst or underwriter role or equivalent experience as demonstrated through work, training, military or education. Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or economics.
