ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Galt is accepting applications for
Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.

Base Pay Increases:
Effective July 1, 2026: $35.67 - $43.78
Effective July 1, 2027: $36.94 - $45.33
ADDITIONAL PAY (UPON ASSIGNMENT AND ELIGIBILITY):
Incentive Pay - Up to 5% incentive for City-approved educational courses.
Longevity Pay - Beginning at 10 years of service, 5%; 15 years of service, 7.5%. for Non-Sworn mid-management employees. Beginning at 8 years of service - 2.5%; 10 years of service - 5% and 12 years of service 7.5% for Sworn mid-management employees.
Bilingual Pay - $100 per month.
Cell Phone Stipend- $75 per month.
Medical-in-lieu - Employees who waive the City's medical coverage shall receive $200 per month for employee only, $350 per month for employee plus one, and $500 per month for family.
BENEFITS:
Home Buying Program - $25,000 interest-free loan to assist with the purchase of a home in Galt city limits.
Tuition Reimbursement - Up to $4,000 per fiscal year.
Holiday Pay - Fourteen (14) paid holidays: One (1) floating holiday and thirteen (13) fixed holidays observed: New Year’s Day, MLK Jr. Day, Presidents Day, Cesar Chavez Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, Day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.
Vacation Leave- 80 hours per year for the first 4 years of service, 120 hours after 4 years, 160 hours after 10 years, 200 hours after 15 years, and 240 hours after 22 years.
Vacation Credit - Those with 4+ years of prior public agency experience may request to accrue at a rate of 120 hours.
Vacation Cash Out- Eligible employees may cash out up to 80 hours per year.
Sick Leave- 96 hours per year.
Admin Leave - 70 hours for exempt employees.
Health Insurance- City pays a generous portion of the CalPERS medical premium (9 options), City pays 100% for dental and vision premiums.
Life Insurance- City paid $50,000 policy and $1,500 policy for dependents.
Long Term Disability - City-paid policy-benefit is up to 60% of base salary.

Under general direction, plans, organizes, monitors, supervises, and participates in facility maintenance operations including building maintenance and custodial services; coordinates, monitors, and provides technical input for assigned facilities maintenance and related projects and programs; provides assistance to Public Works Maintenance Manager; and performs related work as required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general direction from the Public Works Maintenance Manager. Exercises general supervision over assigned staff and contractors.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
This is the full supervisory-level class in the facilities maintenance class series. Responsibilities include planning, organizing, supervising, reviewing, and evaluating the work of facilities maintenance and custodial staff, and ensuring the health and safety of the public and City employees through the timely cleaning, repair, and maintenance of City-owned and leased buildings and facilities. Performance of the work requires the use of independent decision making, initiative, and discretion within established guidelines.
This class is distinguished from the Public Works Maintenance Manager in that the latter has overall management responsibility for Public Works facilities, streets and water and sewer distribution and collection systems.

Plans, organizes, assigns, supervises, and reviews the work of assigned staff in the maintenance of City buildings and facilities; administers service contracts related to custodial services and facilities maintenance and repair.
Evaluates employee performance, counsels employees, and recommends initial disciplinary action; assists in selection and promotional recommendations for subordinates; and coordinates staff training in proper facility/custodial maintenance and safety methods, procedures, and techniques.
Determines and recommends equipment, materials, schedules, and staffing needs for assigned projects and programs; participates in the annual budget preparation; prepares detailed cost estimates with appropriate justifications, as required; reviews needs with appropriate management staff; allocates resources appropriately within available budget allocations.
Participates in the development of facility maintenance goals and objectives as well as policies and procedures; makes recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards, policies, and procedures; participates in the implementation of approved policies and procedures; monitors work activities to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures.
Monitors operations and activities of the facilities maintenance work unit; identifies opportunities for improving service delivery methods and procedures; provides recommendations concerning process changes; reviews with appropriate management staff; implements improvements.
Prepares documents for equipment procurement; prepares specifications and contracts for contract services.
Plans and lays out maintenance work projects; monitors and controls supplies and equipment; orders supplies and tools as necessary; participates in the bid process for custodial, maintenance and repair projects.
Inspects assigned City facilities for safety violations; ensures that safety procedures are followed and employees wear required safety equipment; makes periodic safety presentations to assigned staff.
Coordinates minor construction projects, remodels, and other special projects.
Assists in the preparation of various contracts, RFP's (requests for proposal), and reports.
Coordinates with contractors in providing contract services.
Oversees facilities and construction and renovation projects; inspect work upon completion.
Receives and resolves complaints from the public or City employees regarding facility maintenance and custodial matters and effectively responds to issues/problems.
Enforces safety regulations and trains staff in the practices and procedures related to the custodial work and general semi-skilled maintenance tasks of buildings and facilities.
Provides administrative support to the department, such as conducting research, performing special projects, developing reports, or compiling statistics related to facilities maintenance or repair.
Operates a standard vehicle to travel to multiple locations in order to perform assigned tasks; transporting equipment as needed, and performing assigned tasks at each worksite.
Maintains logs and records of work performed.
Responds to emergency situations as necessary.
Performs related duties as assigned.

Supplemental Information
Education and Experience:
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Equivalent to graduation from high school and five (5) years of experience performing a variety of facility maintenance and/or construction work including work in two or more of the following trades: carpentry, electrical, painting, plumbing, HVAC, or welding; including one (1) year of lead or supervisory experience.
Licenses and Certifications:
Possession of a valid Class C California driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record.
Possession of Adult, Child, Infant First Aid/CPR/AED Certification within probationary period specified by the City.
Within the probationary period, obtain: Facility Management Professional (FMP) Certification and Electrical Technologies Certification.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must possess mobility to work in the field; strength, stamina, and mobility to perform physical work, to work in confined spaces and around machines, to climb and descend ladders, to operate varied hand and power tools and construction equipment, and to operate a motor vehicle and visit various City sites; vision to read printed material and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio. The job involves fieldwork requiring frequent walking in operational areas to identify problems or hazards. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate above-mentioned tools and equipment. Positions in this classification bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and climb to perform work and inspect work sites. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 100 pounds, or heavier weights with the use of proper equipment.
ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS
Employees work in the field and are exposed to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions, road hazards, vibration, confining workspaces, chemicals, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, and hazardous physical substances and fumes. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives, and contractors in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical, drug screen, and background investigation, including fingerprinting. Must be available for shift work, standby assignments, and work emergency overtime as required.

The City is on a 9/80 work schedule. The City is closed to the public on Fridays.
MEDICAL The City of Galt participates in the CalPERS Health Program. Employees have a wide variety of choices of HMOs and PPOs. Employees of this group receive a set dollar amount for benefits(cafeteria plan) in accordance with the Galt Personnel Manual.

CASH IN-LIEU OF GROUP INSURANCE Employees who choose to waive coverage under the City's medical insurance program shall be compensated $200 per month for waiving employee only coverage, $350 per month for waiving employee plus one and $500 per month for waiving employee plus family coverage.
DENTAL City pays the total cost of the premium for employee and dependents.
VISION PLAN City pays the total cost of the premium for employee and dependents.
LIFE INSURANCE City pays the total cost of premiums for $50,000 coverage.
LONG-TERM DISABILITY (LTD) City pays total cost of premium. Maximum monthly benefit $9,000 and and a $1,500 policy for the employees dependents.
SOCIAL SECURITY AND MEDICARE The employee and City both contribute to Social Security/Medicare.
FLEXIBLE SPENDING ACCOUNT Covers IRS approved medical and/or approved dependent care expenses to be paid on a pre-tax basis.
Medical spending up to $3,400 annually
Dependent care up to $7,500 if filing married or $3,750 if filing single.
RETIREMENT SYSTEM (CalPERS) Classic CalPERS full time employees are covered under the 2 % @ 55 PERS retirement program. The City pays 100% of the employer contribution for this program. Employees contribute 7% towards the employee contribution for this program.
PEPRA CalPERS full time employees (hired after 1/1/13) are covered under the 2% @ 62 retirement program. The employee and the City share in the normal cost. The current employee contribution is 8.25%.
CalPERS Pension – Police Chief Classic CalPERS retirement for full time sworn safety employees are covered under the 3 % @ 50 PERS retirement program. The City pays 100% of the employer contribution for this program.
PEPRA CalPERS retirement for new sworn safety employees hired after 1/1/2013 shall be calculated at the CalPERS rate formula of 2.7% @ age 57 plan.
DEFERRED COMPENSATION Voluntary Deferred Compensation Plan through TIAA-CREF.
EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is administered by Guidance Resources. Confidential, employer-paid benefit program designed to assist employees in solving personal problems and managing everyday issues. Available to employees and immediate family.

SICK LEAVE Employees accumulate eight (8) hours per month. Remaining balances rollover each year with no cap.
SICK LEAVE CASH OUT/CALPERS SERVICE CREDIT Employees retiring or separating are eligible for sick leave cash out of 75% of balance, up to a maximum of four hundred eighty (480) hours; upon retirement, remaining sick leave hours may be converted to CalPERS service credit.
ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE 70 hours each fiscal year for exempt mid-managers.
BILINGUAL PAY Eligible employees may receive one hundred dollars ($100) per month for bilingual skills if meet the criteria and pass an oral or written examination.

LONGEVITY Employees who have been employed by the City for ten (10) years, shall be paid 5% above their regular base pay. Employees, who have been employed by the City for fifteen (15) years, shall be paid 7.5% above their regular base pay.
Sworn management employees who have been employed by the City for 8 years shall be paid 2.5% above their regular base pay. Employees who have been employed by the City for 10 years shall be paid 5% above their regular base pay. Employees who have been employed with the City for 12 years shall be paid 7.5% above their regular base pay.
