Quality Inspector B
POSITION SUMMARY:
Inspects assemblies and their components for conformance to drawing and specification requirements. Performs and witnesses leak tests, strength tests, and performs non-destructive tests. Capable of learning to generate data in AS9102 format for First Articles.
PREREQUISITES:
High School Education or equivalent, 2 years previous mechanical inspection experience or equivalent. Computer literate with general organizational and clerical skills. Ability to perform multiple tasks in a challenging environment to assure delivery requirements to both internal and external customers. Ability to complete certification to ASNT NDT Programs such as VT, PT & UT within a couple of years of employment with AC. Ability to keep accurate records. Ability to follow documented procedures and standards. Proficient with measuring tools such as: tape measures, calipers, micrometers, protractors, and indicators. Must be able to pass Jaeger and Ishihara vision tests and must be able to pass blueprint reading and mechanical inspection test.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Must have basic computer skills for email, record keeping, and data entry.
Inspects assemblies and subassemblies, visually and with inspection equipment. Expectations to learn to use CMM FARO arm.
Examines painted assemblies and subassemblies visually for conformance with drawings and specifications.
Maintains records and logbooks of inspections performed and their results.
Communicates to manufacturing personnel the results of inspections and tests.
Reads and interprets blueprints, specifications, procedures, and inspection instruments. Understanding of GD& T requirements.
Inspects cromate conversion coating visually for conformance to specifications.
MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Files inspection records.
Maintains a clean work area.
Transfers inspection instructions to blueprints, working from master blueprints.
Prepares requisitions for office supplies used by Inspection.
Photocopies inspection records.
Assists other Inspectors in performing surface plate inspection and set-up of piece parts.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Lifts 50 lbs maximum and frequently lifts or carries parts weighting 25 lbs.
Stands 80% of day to inspect assemblies.
Walks 10% of day performing inspections at different workstations.
Sits 10% of day recording inspection results.
Carries 15 to 25 lb containers and assemblies during inspection process.
Stoops, kneels, and/or crouches to inspect lower sides of assemblies.
Reaches for drawings, components, and subassemblies.
Manages inspection equipment.
Manages rubber gaskets and foam cushions to assure proper bonding.
Orally interprets specifications, blueprints, and job orders to Team Members.
Clarity of near vision and midrange vision is required to visually inspect assemblies and subassemblies.
Ability to adjust vision to read gauges at a distance and then record the readings in logbook held in hands.
Color vision is required to distinguish proper hue and color of paints.
MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT USED:
CMM (FARO Arm), Tesa height gauge, measuring tapes and scales, micrometers, dial and vernier calipers, thread gauges, pressure gauges, temperature gauges, ultrasonic thickness tester, shore durometer, go, n-go gauges and fixtures, copier, safety glasses, rubber gloves, ear plugs, pens, pencils, blueprint packages. Specifications, written procedures, files, and wire brushes.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Normally works inside 95%; works outside 5 %, if needed; exposed to odors in paints and solvents; exposed to grinding dust, when grinding; exposed to noise from machining and sawing processes. Exposed to hot temperatures in the plant during the summer months and exposed to colder temperatures in the plant during the winter months.
PRODUCTS PRODUCED: Metal frames, containers, and other metal products.
GENERAL COMMENTS:
Proficient reading, communication and math skills required.
Personal, work and/or school references must indicate dependability, good attendance, good steady worker, few, or no job-related problems.
Prefer 2 years’ experience of visuals, tooling, drawings, and hands on roles.
Maintain a positive working environment with other Inspectors, Team Members, and customer personnel.
Must support and be engaged in AC’s quality, environmental, health and safety management system.
