Job Overview
First Step is seeking a qualified and passionate Preschool Teacher to join our team and contribute to the growth and development of young children. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in early childhood education and a genuine interest in fostering a nurturing learning environment.
First Step has operated in the So. Freeport Church for 35 years and is well known and respected in the community. Our childcare, preschool and pre-k programs are designed to provide a safe, reliable, and educational environment while fostering social and emotional growth and supporting self-help skills.
Please note that pay is commensurable with experience and education.
A State of Maine Wage stipend is also currently available based on your Maine Roads to Quality Registry level.
Responsibilities
- Create and implement age-appropriate lesson plans
- Provide a safe and supportive learning environment for preschool-aged children
- Foster social, emotional, and cognitive development through engaging activities
- Communicate effectively with parents regarding their child's progress
- Manage classroom behavior and promote positive interactions among students
- Collaborate with other teachers and staff to ensure a cohesive educational experience
- Observe, assess, and document children’s health, skills, behavior, growth, and development
Experience
- Previous experience in a daycare, preschool, or early intervention setting is preferred
- Knowledge of child welfare, childhood development, and special education practices
- Ability to effectively educate young children through various teaching methods
- Strong communication skills to interact with children, parents, and colleagues
- Familiarity with physical education activities for young learners
- Proficiency in behavior management techniques to create a harmonious classroom
- Degree in Early Childhood Education
- Knowledge in Preschool Maine Early Learning Guidelines
- Trained in CPR, or agreement to complete within a year of hire.
- Mandated Reporter training, or agreement to complete within a year of hire.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: From $17.00 per hour
Expected hours: 25 – 40 per week
