Principal Software Engineering Manager - GitHub Plan and Track (CoreAI)
Overview:
As Principal Software Engineering Manager, you guide strategic tech direction across distributed teams, shaping architecture and scalable systems. You lead and grow a group of full-stack engineers while embedding best practices for reliability and maintainability. You drive collaboration with Product and Design to solve complex problems and act as a technical multiplier using modern AI tooling. This role combines technical leadership with an inclusive culture that values learning, speed, and impact.
Responsibilities:
- Set technical strategy and roadmaps with Product/Design for complex customer problems
- Manage and develop a distributed group of full-stack engineers
- Ensure strategic alignment across teams for high-impact, scalable experiences
- Oversee system architecture for extensible and reliable features
- Lead practical adoption of modern AI development tools to speed iteration
- Maintain high quality through code reviews and robust testing practices
- Contribute to a modern full-stack codebase (Ruby on Rails, React, TypeScript) and manage tech dependencies
- Foster technical excellence and drive exploration of new approaches across distributed teams
- Mentor team members and create pairing opportunities to define success
Key requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field AND 8+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in C/C++/C#/Java/JavaScript/Python OR equivalent experience
- Ability to meet Microsoft security screening requirements (Microsoft Cloud Background Check)
