Senior Paint Technician
What You Will Do:
We are seeking a Senior Paint Technician to join our team at Korry in a fast-paced, cutting-edge aerospace manufacturing environment. In this crucial role, you will be responsible for ensuring all finishing processes meet strict aerospace specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements. You will also leverage your experience to develop innovative surface preparation, painting, coating, and curing solutions alongside manufacturing engineering to eliminate rework, improve yield, and increase efficiency.
Primary Responsibilities:
Serve as the technical subject matter expert in the painting and coating department
Able to train individuals on the use of various paint coatings, including primers, topcoats, and specialty finishes, on cutting-edge hardware using spray guns and other application equipment
Maintain and improve Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for surface preparation, painting, coating, and curing processes
Continuous improvement activities involving painting/coating technology, in conjunction with the Manufacturing Engineering (ME) team, to improve yield and increase labor utilization
Work on Root Cause/Corrective Actions (RCCA) with the Quality and Manufacturing Engineering teams to mitigate defects
Use your experience with paints from various suppliers to inform internal supply chain personnel about potential impacts of supplier changes on production
Proactively monitor the supply base to address upcoming chemical shortages and obsolescence. This activity will utilize various inputs, such as kanban, MRP signals and operator feedback, to realign min-max quantities to emergent demand
Assist in developing strong Return on Investment (ROI) analyses for improvements to painting and coating tooling and equipment
Perform special projects and assigned tasks
Note: Approximately 85% of this role focuses on maintaining and improving processes, collaborating with engineers, and executing special projects. 15% of the role will be time in the paint booth training new operators and testing new processes/tooling.
Preferred Education:
Associate's Degree or High School Diploma/GED plus relevant experience
Preferred Experience:
5+years of direct experience with surface preparation, paint mixing, applying paints and coatings and curing/drying in a manufacturing or similar environment
2+ years of direct experience in an AS9100 manufacturing facility.
5+years ofdeveloping painting and coating processes and implementing innovative technologies to enhance quality
Industry-recognized professional painting certifications, such as NADCAP or PPG certification
Experience with FOD mitigation program
Proficiency with advanced application techniques and equipment
Experience working with paints from numerous suppliers
Familiarity with automated paint mixing and application systems
Preferred Skills and Abilities:
Ability to interpret Product Data Sheets (PDS) and Technical Data Sheets (TDS) for proper mixing ratios and application methods
Ability to train and mentor junior painters
Skill in safely operating spray coating equipment according to industry standards
Mechanical aptitude with troubleshooting and diagnosing faulty equipment and tooling
Staying current with the latest advancements and industry trends in paint chemistry
Highly detail-oriented and analytical,approach to technical writing assignments
Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
Strong sense of urgency and self-motivation
Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
Thrive in a fast-paced environment and are empowered to innovate and lead change
Physical Requirements:
Frequent movement about the production floor, working closely with operations and engineering personnel.
Continuous use of personal computers, database and digital platforms, etc.
Uses hands, fingers, and arms to manipulate parts, equipment, tooling, materials, etc.
Frequent close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
Occasionally use of steps, or ladder.
The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Seldom to occasionally position self to stoop, kneel, or crouch.
Pay Range:
Please note the typical hiring range is $38.46 - $57.69 Hourly. Job offers within the range are based on significant job qualifications and pay equity
