The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of geometric roadway and roadside design and be capable of producing roadway plans for Alabama state and local clients.Immediate benefits include opportunities to develop client relationships and represent Thompson Engineering in professional organizations. Long-term growth opportunities may include advancement into senior leadership roles with responsibility for managing projects and developing junior engineers.This position works closely with Thompson Engineering's multi-disciplined team of engineers, surveyors, and environmental scientists.Your Role and ResponsibilitiesAs a Transportation Project Engineer, you will work closely with team leaders and support staff to deliver high-quality roadway and bridge designs throughout the Southeast. Responsibilities include:Preparing preliminary design studies, project planning documents, and related activitiesDeveloping project specifications, cost and material estimates, reports, and engineering studiesProducing design, detail, and layout drawings and sketchesManaging task schedules, submittals, and project budgets to ensure timely and cost-effective deliveryEnsuring compliance with company safety and quality policies and proceduresMinimum RequirementsBachelor's degree in Civil Engineering5–10 years of relevant experienceAlabama Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain, requiredProven experience with ALDOT design methods, standards, specifications, and plan preparationProficiency in MicroStation, InRoads, and other Bentley productsWorking knowledge of OpenRoads preferredStrong knowledge of drainage design and applicable softwareAbility to manage client expectations, project schedules, and budgetsAbility to mentor and train entry-level engineersStrong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work both in the field and in an office environment for extended periodsPhysical RequirementsAbility to work flexible schedules and overtime as requiredAbility to sit for extended periods and operate a computerAbility to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)Valid driver's license and ability to operate a company vehicle if requiredAbout Thompson EngineeringFounded in 1953, Thompson Engineering provides planning, design, and construction-related services across the industrial, commercial, transportation, federal, and municipal markets.
