About This PositionThe Parks and Recreation Department provides residents and visitors more than 41,000 acres of desert parks and mountain preserves. The parks feature 41 trailheads and more than 200 miles of trails, and 185 city parks. Additionally, there are 32 community and recreation centers, classes, and sports programs for all ages, 29 pools, eight golf courses, and a variety of specialty and cultural venues and facilities.The fundamental reason this classification exists is to perform skilled maintenance of parks, or other landscaped areas. Some positions exercise lead responsibilities over unskilled employees. The gardener on a sprinkler system assignment is responsible for maintaining an automated sprinkler system. Typical duties include repairing or replacing sprinkler heads, valves, automatic timers, and solenoids. Other duties include troubleshooting automatic systems; repairing broken sprinkler lines; operating small trenching machines; and tracking down and repairing water leaks and faulty wiring. Positions require the incumbent to use electronic tracing devices.IDEAL CANDIDATEKnowledge of gardening methods & tools.Knowledge of herbicide applications.SALARYPay Range: $18.60 - $31.82 per hour.Hiring Range: $18.60 - $30.31 per hour.Pay Range ExplanationPay range is the entire compensation range for the position classification.Hiring range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer.
