May 11, 2026| Employment, Employment Opportunities |POSITION TITLE: Custodial SupervisorDEPARTMENT: FacilitiesREPORTS TO: Facilities ManagerSUPERVISES: Custodial StaffEMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full Time: Hours may vary and include weekdays, weekends, and nights.Position SummaryThe PRIMARY function of the Custodial Supervisor is to oversee the daily cleaning and sanitation operations forthe City owned or operated facilities. This is a ‘working’ supervisor position and will perform alltasks/assignments as needed to maintain a high level of sanitation and cleanliness throughout. The CustodialSupervisor is also responsible for training new employees in proper custodial procedures for the use of manuallyoperated tools, electrically powered machines, cleaning compounds, solvents, and chemicalsPosition Duties Supervises the activities of the Custodial staff directly by using both verbal and written instructions in compliance with the guidelines provided by the immediate supervisor and using independent judgment in instances not covered by the guidelines.Ensures that custodial services meet the needs of the Department/City and established custodial guidelines by scheduling work activities and adjusting workloads to compensate for scheduled and unscheduled events, absences, changing priorities, and special projects.Ensures that the quality of custodial services meets established guidelines by inspecting the work of custodial personnel and directing corrective measures to be taken when necessary to meet those guidelines.Develops an effective team of custodial personnel by instructing all employees in the proper methods and use of materials and equipment for safe and efficient work performance, evaluating individual performances to meet established standards, assisting in providing recommendation on performance evaluations for custodial personnel. Enforces City rules and policies regarding employee conduct, issues verbal warnings and written reprimands for violations, and recommending disciplinary action to the immediate supervisor as appropriate. Ensures that custodial personnel have the equipment and supplies necessary to perform custodial services by issuing supplies as needed, inventorying, and ordering sufficient stock, and storing in a secure storage area. Maintains/cleans custodial equipment. Evaluates new custodial supplies and equipment by conducting testing of such items and recommending the appropriateness of their use. Advises the immediate supervisor on the condition of City buildings and facilities by conducting regular inspections of those areas and reporting the results of the inspections with particular emphasis on areas needing repairs or additional cleaning measures.Ensures that administrative records and reports regarding custodial personnel are accurate and current by reviewing employee time sheets, monitoring employee absences and tardiness. Assists with ensuring that specified contract services are provided by the contractor by inspecting the work performed and advising the immediate supervisor when shortcomings or other deficiencies are noted. Provides continuity of cleaning services by assuming the duties and responsibilities of other Custodial Staff as required or by special circumstances. Performs other related duties as assigned.Desirable QualificationsGraduation from High School or possession of a GEDExperience with industry (janitorial) trade cleaning standards: methods, materials, and equipmentExperience in the cleaning of facilities,One (1) year or more of supervisory experienceHolds and maintains a valid driver’s licenseConsiderable Ability ToCommunicate clearly and effectively in English in person, over the telephone and in public.
